Great Sand Dunes National Park Family Friendly Restaurants
Calvillos Mexican Restaurant 400 Main Street•Alamosa, CO •719-587-5500 Calvillos, known for its fabulous authentic Mexican food, is the locals' hands-down favorite of all the restaurants in town. Its all-you-can-eat buffet (which is constantly being refreshed and replenished) includes more than 80 items, but you can also order off of the menu. If you donât see what you want, ask for it. |
East-West Grill 408 4th Street•Alamosa, CO •719-589-4600 This casual restaurant combines both Asian and Italian fare, offering rice and noodle bowls, pasta dishes, bento boxes, fresh salads, sandwiches and wraps, all made to order fresh. East-West also has a great breakfast menu with eggs, pancakes and French toast, in addition to serving lunch and dinner. Kidsâ meals include noodles and cheese, macaroni and cheese, and spaghetti. Among their fabulous baked goods are cheesecake, pies, scones, and cinnamon rolls. Drink options include lattes, espresso, chai tea, frappachinos, fresh fruit smoothies, and apple cider. |
Milagros Coffeehouse 529 Main Street•Alamosa, CO •719-589-9299 What immediately sets Milagros apart is its extensive and eclectic organic coffee and latte selection (which includes the popular Snickers latte as well as various exotic, foreign coffee concoctions). The café serves both breakfast and lunch, with quiche, bagels and other baked goods, soups and chili on the menu, not to mention fruit smoothies and ice cream. But this is no ordinary commercial establishment -- Milagros is a nonprofit organization that supports the emergency shelter and homeless prevention programs run by parent organization La Puente. |
San Louis Valley Brewing Company 631 Main Street•Alamosa, CO •719-587-2337 The San Louis Valley Brewing Company serves pasta, steaks, ribs, fish, chicken, sandwiches and salads -- typical American fare. This eatery is also known for its locally made sausages, using naturally grown meat and organic spices with no fillers, MSG, or nitrates. As you might imagine, owners and brew masters Scott and Angie Graber also brew beer on the premises and have several varieties on tap every day. But your kids will enjoy their homemade root beer and black cherry cream soda. |
San Luis Valley Pizza Company 2069 West First Street•Alamosa, CO •719-589-4749 Not only is the pizza good here, but you can also order it to be delivered at the ABC Pro Bowl bowling alley next door in the same building. San Louis Valley Pizza Company offers both standard and gourmet pizza, as well as calzones, cannolis, and a salad bar. They also have a full breakfast menu, featuring omelets. |
