We are fortunate to have visited the Greenbrier more than a dozen times. It is truly one of our family's favorite escapes.

The resort has been recently refurbished and has an extra "sparkle" that is evident in many of the more +public spaces. We have been to other resorts that are bigger and some that have more elaborate pool complexes or are adjacent to theme parks, but we keep returning to The Greenbrier time and again. Why? In part, the place has a unique atmosphere of "casual elegance" that allows families to teach kids about the "finer things in life."

We can enjoy the inimitable "High Tea" every afternoon and get "dressed up for dinner" in the historic Main Dining Room, or we can opt for a less "fancy" meal after ice skating at the temporary rink which was set up this winter atop the putting green. We love the unique opportunities like falconry and the off-road driving school, but also love the simplicity of hanging out in the "old world style" indoor pool. One of our favorite complimentary activities -- the walking tour of the hotel and grounds -- always brings our attention to a detail we previously overlooked. And a fascinating slide show presentation on the history of the resort is a MUST SEE. The Greenbrier Historian, Bob Conte, shares the colorful stories of the hotel's history with such enthusiasm and humor, it is easy to see why he has been interviewed countless times on The Travel Channel, TLC and a host of other media outlets.

Our room this visit (a Junior Suite) was spacious and comfortable. We always remark on the comfortable beds at the Greenbrier--and this time we actually bought a bed pillow from the gift shop! I don't guess there is a higher compliment.

With all there is to do, we still haven't spent much time in the new casino or the renowned spa, but I guess that's what keeps us coming back. There is always more to do than we can pack into a weekend.
