Guadeloupe Islands, located in the Lesser Antilles, is a collection of islands that belong to France. The main island, Grande-Terre, is home to the airport and the majority of family-friendly properties, including the island's only all-inclusive resort, Club Med.

Basse-Terre, Les Saintes, La Desirade and Marie-Galante make up the remaining islands known as the "Pearl of the French Caribbean." Most of Basse-Terre is made up of the island's national park, which surrounds a towering volcano and is covered in a rain forest. Grand-Terre and Basse-Terre are the two largest islands and are connected by a narrow straight with bridges. The remaining islands are accessible via boat.

With direct flights available to Pointe-a-Pitre from Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., and Miami, the islands are easier than ever to reach and offer a different experience for frequent visitors of the Caribbean looking for a new change of scenery.

As islands of France, the country operates under the Euro and islanders speak French or a form of Creole. It is difficult to communicate in English outside of hotels and resorts and guests will need to seek out English-speaking tour guides for excursions. While this is France, it is also the Caribbean -- a slower pace and less conveniences of home surrounded by lush tropical landscape and beautiful turquoise waters.
