Super Bowl LI will be hosted in Houston, Texas this year on Feb. 5. Houston offers families a big Texas welcome and lots of things to do besides the big game, so we've created a guide to the Super Bowl for kids. There is live entertainment and Super Bowl activities for kids prior to kick off, and the halftime show is sure to be fun for everyone. Plus, Houston has a ton to do once you tire of the pigskin. Here's everything you need to know if you're planning a family Super Bowl trip for your family.
Before the Big Game
Super Bowl LIVE: This free, week-long event kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 28 and runs through Super Bowl Sunday. It is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and from 3 to 9 p.m. during the week. The fan village is located in downtown Houston at the Discovery Green. Fans of all ages are welcome at this family-friendly Super Bowl activity. Kids will love the interactive games, live music and lots of food. Future Flight, which is a combination virtual reality and drop tower ride, will have fans screaming with excitement, too!
NFL Experience Driven by Genesis: This Super Bowl activity for kids takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Jan. 28 and 29 and again from Feb. 1 to 5. Kids will love the youth football clinics, autograph signings, 40-yard dash, vertical jump against NFL players on LED screens, a virtual reality experience, plenty of NFL merchandise available for purchase and the Super Bowl rings exhibit. Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under.
NFL Opening Night: On Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Minute Maid Park, football fans can watch the players and coaches meet with the press. Live music, autograph signings and photo opportunities are available. Limited tickets start at $20.
Super Bowl Gospel Celebration: The first ever music event sanctioned by the NFL will take place on Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakewood Church in Houston. NFL players and musical artists will perform with inspiring music and messages. Tickets are available for purchase.
Athletes in Action Breakfast: An NFL player is presented with the 2017 Bart Starr Award at this Athletes in Action Breakfast held on Feb. 4 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Marriott Marquis. A player who shows outstanding character, integrity and leadership on and off the field is always the recipient of the award. Tickets start at $200 or a table of 10 starts at $2,000. Dress for this breakfast is business casual.
Taste of the NFL: Held at the University of Houston on Feb. 4 from 7 to 10 p.m., this annual food and wine festival showcases chefs from 32 NFL cities. This event may be best suited for the adults in the family who will enjoy the 45,000 different tastings, live music and auction.
Super Bowl Activities for Kids on Game Day
The GameDay Fan Plaza will be open to ticketholders from 1 to 4 p.m. and is located on the south side of NRG Stadium near Entry 4. Families can enjoy marching bands, cheerleaders, interactive games and photo opportunities with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Grammy Winner Lady Gaga will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show at the NRG Stadium in Houston. Lady Gaga performed an impressive rendition of the National Anthem at the 2016 Super Bowl and will surely impress fans again. Can you guess what her outfit will look like? Families who have the privilege of sitting in the Super Bowl stands will witness the show that had 116.5 million viewers in 2016.
Things to Do in Houston
Space Center Houston
Families will love touring the space artifacts as well as watching actual astronauts train for missions. The NASA Tram Tour takes families behind-the-scenes of the NASA Johnson Space Center, where kids can tour rockets and more. Walk inside a trainer module or tour the Independence Plaza, which contains a shuttle carrier aircraft. The Space Center opens every day at 10 a.m. and is at its busiest on the weekends.

Located less than 10 minutes away from NRG Stadium, kids will love the hands-on exhibits at this museum. Kids can discover how things work or invent something imaginative in the Invention Convention or Inventors' Workshop. Or make a visit to Kidtropolis where kids can participate in keeping this real-life city running.
When you are ready to escape the turf for the sand, visit the Gulf shores of Galveston Island. Located about one hour from NRG Stadium, the Gulf waters make for a perfect family beach getaway. The island's historic downtown Strand is also a fun spot to visit with many shops, restaurants and museums.
