Located in Harrison County on Mississippi's Gulf Coast, the city of Gulfport was incorporated in 1898. Shortly thereafter, work began on the harbor at the water's edge, and it was completed in 1902, marking the beginning of this city's thriving career as a seaport. Initially, Gulfport, Mississippi was known for lumber and the busy port, but through the ensuing years, it has built a reputation as one of the top beach destinations for families.

Unlike many other family-friendly beach destinations, Gulfport's waterfront has not given way to high-rise condominium complexes and resort hotels. Instead, there are miles and miles of open beaches and ocean views for all to enjoy. You will find hotels and restaurants that offer ocean views, but they are located across the street from the beaches.

When Hurricane Katrina came ashore in 2005, it devastated Gulfport, Mississippi, but the residents and businesses of Gulfport wasted no time in cleaning up the aftermath and rebuilding their city.

Today, families can benefit from their efforts, enjoying a wealth of quality Gulfport accommodations, restaurants, attractions and activities during their vacation.
