All of the restaurants at Hawks Cay -- including Alma, the fine dining option -- have kid-friendly menus with the usual array of pizza, burgers and chicken nuggets. And kids are welcome everywhere around the resort's restaurants, except the bar areas. You can treat the little ones to a kiddie cappuccino (frothed milk and chocolate, minus the espresso) from the Starbucks coffee bar off the lobby.
The Terrace, off the main pool, has outdoor dining and a weekend breakfast buffet with an omelet station, fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and kid-friendly items like pancakes and French toast (the menu is a la carte on weekdays, with similar offerings). And perfect for a poolside family lunch by the Indies Club is the Indies Grill, which serves cocktails and burgers for the adults as well as childhood classics for the kids, such as PB&J sandwiches, hot dogs and nachos in addition to healthier snacks like crunchy apple slices and carrot sticks. Located between the main pool and the adults-only tranquility pool is the Beach Grill restaurant, open from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. with a breezy bar and tables set in the sand. Caribbean food such as fish tacos and ceviche is on the menu, along with kid-pleasers like fish sticks and burgers.
Tom's Harbor House, at Duck Key marina, makes you feel like you're going "out" to dinner, with its dockside setting and daily happy hour. Open for dinner only, the restaurant will cook your fresh catch (there's a full menu, too) and keep the kids happy with items like conch fritters, fish and chips and hot dogs. The resort's fine dining restaurant is Alma. And while kids offerings are available here, too, the restaurant is really better suited for an adult night out, with tables set up near the fire pit and a sophisticated vibe. Seafood -- from poached lobster to seared scallops -- figures heavily on the menu. And don't forget the ice cream shop at the marina -- wherever you choose to gather the family for dinner, save room for dessert and take a family stroll to the docks to finish the night on a sweet note. There's also a small but well-edited grocery store at the marina where you can buy staples such as milk, eggs, cereal and vegetables to stock your villa or mini fridge.
