Pennsylvania offers several well-known theme parks, including Sesame Place, Dutch Wonderland, Dorney Park and Knoebels. Our favorite one, however, might just be Hersheypark, situated near Harrisburg and affectionately established as "The Sweetest Place on Earth." During the summer months, the amusement park opens to offer families a whirlwind of rides, food and entertainment, though the park is just as exciting during the fall and winter months, when it hosts Halloween in Hershey in October and Hershey Sweet Lights and Christmas Candylane in November and December. Other highlights -- open year-round -- include Hershey's Chocolate World, where you can see just how your favorite treats are made, and The Hershey Story, where you'll learn about the man behind all the delicious chocolate; did you know the original chocolate bars were manufactured and distributed to soldiers, to boost their energy and morale?

Hershey is more than a popular theme park and chocolate, though. It's a true family destination, with reasonably priced sporting events at Giant Center, concerts at Hershey Stadium and The Star Pavilion at Hershey Stadium, and even a chance to see wildlife at ZooAmerica. Plus, the area offers a wealth of family-friendly hotels, with space for large families, complimentary breakfast and swimming pools a standard in most.
