Overview

A historic hotel in Spring Lake, N.J., The Hewitt Wellington offers a quiet, Victorian-era ambiance. Guests love the beautiful wrap-around porches, heated swimming pool and Whispers, the hotel’s elegant restaurant. The Hewitt Wellington isn’t all that family-friendly, so it’s probably best suited for groups with older children. Standard rooms do not accommodate families, but suites can sleep up to four guests. And since the hotel is just three blocks from the beach, it’s a great spot for summer vacations.

NOT As Advertised

by Dawn M

We left after one night despite the fact that we prepaid for three nights.

Check In - Third floor room, no elevator, no help with luggage.

After we checked in, the desk clerk handed us a key and said our room was on the third floor. She never offered to show us to our room or to help with our luggage. There's NO elevator! So, my husband and I had to carry our heavy suitcases up three flights of stairs by ourselves.

Room - Nasty stained carpet, dents and marks on every wall.

The room was disgusting! From the nasty stains in the carpet and dents and marks on every wall to the really bizarre bathroom that was clearly not part of the original design was awful!

Don't be fooled by the outside of this hotel. It is not charming or elegant. It is a run down trap for unsuspecting tourists.

New Jersey Shore Elegance For Large Happy Families

Upon a friend's recommendation, my wife and three young children stayed at the Hewitt Wellington for five days. We had a delightful time. The room was pleasant and clean, with a beautiful balcony. The management and staff evidenced a culture of helpfulness, as all of our requests were cheerfully accommodated. The hotel is also exceptionally "kid friendly," which meant a lot to us. We would definitely return again.
