Hilton Head Planning & Tips
Getting There and Around
Hilton Head is located just north of Savannah, Georgia, on the South Carolina and Georgia border. If you're driving from anywhere on the east coast, the island is easily accessible from highway I-95, which is just about 20 miles west of the island from Exit 8.

If you choose to fly, there are daily flights into Hilton Head Airport (HHH) from Charlotte, NC on US Airways and from Atlanta on Delta. The nearest international airport is Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), located 40 minutes from the island. It has numerous nonstop flights from around the country. The airport is serviced by American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, US Airways and United.
For more information on how to get to Hilton Head or for information on accommodations, restaurants and activities, the Hilton Head Visitors Bureau is a great place to contact.

The Art of Smart Timing
Hilton Head truly is a year-round destination, and there is always something to do on the island. However, there are definitely peak times and slower times. If you want to enjoy warmer weather without the crowds, April and May are lovely and not too hot. Thanksgiving, New Year's and Easter (spring break) are incredibly popular times to visit for families with children, so there are also more scheduled special events and activities during that time. In the summer, the island is hopping with families. But, even with the beach breeze, the summer humidity can be pretty powerful.
