Overview

When the Mayflower opened its doors in 1929 just north of Union Square, the San Francisco Chronicle billed it the “last word in modern guest accommodations.” Today it falls into a different, but equally appealing category, of a wonderfully maintained older hotel that offers a sense of history and the individual details that you don’t find in today’s modern chains. The hotel has a stunning art deco lobby and rooms that are by turn quaint and quirky, as well as clean and comfortable. Although there are no restaurants, or pools on the premises, kids and parents alike tend to love the family suites featuring two connected rooms, where families can spread out like they do at home.

Great value for money

by Dobbin145

We spent 4 nights at the Mayflower on the end of a road trip down from Seattle. What a great way to spend the last part of our vacation. We arrived early (about 10am) just to drop our bags before we returned our rental car to the airport. Very surprised when we were able to check in so early which saved so much time. Throughout our whole stay nothing was too much trouble, all the staff were really friendly, helpful and very laid back. Our room was at the front which made it a little noisy at times but when you consider the location that's no surprise. And since we were on the sixth floor general background noise wasn't a problem. The room was pretty spacious with a walk-in wardrobe which made a big difference. How many times in a city center hotel do you end up tripping over your suitcase? I think the only thing missing from the room was a kettle or coffee maker, but again it wasn't a problem because of all the great coffee shops nearby. I would stay at the Mayflower again evertime because its far enough from the center (where many of the homeless hang out) but near enough to be able to walk in the evening for dinner etc.

Good Location and Price

Stayed here for 3 days and the hotel is very conveniently located near Union Square near lots of restaurants and bars. The Hotel itself has breakfast as well and parking included in the price. The parking is very narrow and at times you can have issues getting in and out. The rooms are old and outdated and the ceiling fans need to be cleaned a bit.
