1st time at Riu Palace Bavaro and cant wait for next time

by Nellinton I M

Went to celebrate mine and spouses birthday (Wednesday 10/30 thru Monday 11/4) and it was exactly what we both needed. Loved the resort and the adults only VIP pools as the main pool was too crowded and loud. So worth the extra cost to upgrade to adults only. The Bed was too hard and a week later my back is still hurting. The specialty restaurants were a pleasant surprise as we were unsure about them and did not know what we were ordering but they were exceptional. Finding our room was difficult sometimes and wished that were shown the way by a bell person when we first arrived none were to be found and at night the signs were poorly lit or completely dark as was our building 5200. Did a excursion with Subua Caribe and it was so worth it that upon our next trip will do another. Hated the entertainment at night but kudos to them but i hated it as it was repetitive and boring. They should also have someone seating guests instead of having us wonder around looking for a table. Should also have a smoke free section. Appreciated the workers everyday who walked the beach and cleaned up the seaweed the came on shore. Pool Parties were a blast and a must for whomever is 21 and older

Beautiful Beach ... a little off overall though

This resort has the most beautiful beach I have ever seen! However, our room (094) was pretty run down and somewhat filthy. I wish I didn’t have to write this because overall we still enjoyed our vacation but the bedding had stains all over it, everything was covered in dust, the mirrors had some strange substance around all the edges and the handle in the wash closet was completely broken. The rest of the hotel looked great unless you sat down and really looked at it for a second. When you do that you realize that it is in need of a good cleaning and maybe some renovations to freshen it up. Things leak, are cracked, dirty and broken at almost every turn. Even when you sit at the booths near the stage and bar area where they perform their shows at night they always seem to be oddly wet despite the fact that it didn’t rain once while we were there.

The food was great, the fruit was incredible and the drinks were fine but as for selection of a la carte options we found it fairly limited. This didn’t really matter to us because the buffet was so good but this might impact others decisions to go to this resort over others.

Above all else, the thing we found the most bothersome was some of the staff members. I’ve never been to a resort where they feel so comfortable to ask you for your belongings. One of the poolside staff members asked my husband for his slides for so many days in a row that I just told him to give them to him literally off his feet because I figured he must need them pretty badly to have asked about them for days on end. The same staff member also harassed my cousin for her portable speaker and didn’t understand when she said that she needed it for her trip, and that she didn’t want to give it/sell it to him m, that it didn’t mean that she would leave it for him at the end of our trip. In fact, we had told him when we were leaving and he found my cousin on social media and messaged her reminding her to leave it for him. Easy to ignore and not upsetting but definitely a bit awkward. The entertainment staff is incredible though. They are all very sweet and super welcoming

Like I said, overall our trip was still enjoyable because the beach, the food and the entertainment staff were the saving grace BUT we would not return to this resort
