Ramblin' River & Activity Pool
Open from 8 a.m. until midnight, a four-acre waterpark consists of a main pool connected to a lazy river is definitely an oasis with little nooks tucked around trees and even a beach. Inner tubes are plentiful, with smaller tubes for smaller tykes, and the river remains at around 4-feet of water. The larger activity pool was a bit crowded for my taste, with water basketball in one section and water volleyball in another -- both made up of mainly adult players -- and leaving little tykes only a small strip of pool near the entry way in which to play.
A kiddie pool is much too small for the amount of guests the resort receives and was completely filled with infants, leaving no space for toddlers. I felt toddlers were left out in all areas. Another complaint: bathrooms are a hike away, near the fitness center and Camp Hyatt.
An adult-only pool is far removed from the noise and chaos.
Rowdy's Campy Hyatt
Kids ages 3 through 12 can participate the Hyatt's camp-like program, with indoor and outdoor activities planned daily. Morning ($35), afternoon ($45) or full-day sessions ($80) can include lunch ($10), and evening dinner programs ($45) are available from 6 to 10 p.m. to bring kids together while parents enjoy a quiet dinner. Twenty-four hours notice is requested.
UNDERground
A hangout for teens ages 12 through 16 is available nightly, 7 to 10 p.m. ($15 each). The club features Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation games, as well as pool table and a smoothie bar. Kids can also get online. A great concept, teens aren't provided a special hangout of their own on weekends, when the hotel is at its fullest. They can, however, enjoy the game room, which is open daily from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Hill Country Golf Club
The resort's 27-hole golf course is a big lure for players with or without families -- it's been named the No. 1 golf destination by Conde Nast Traveler -- and is also one of the few resorts providing free kids play. Kids 16 and younger can play free with paying adults before 2 p.m. ($135 for adults) or after 3 p.m. ($70 for adults), Fridays through Mondays. Lessons are also provided.
Daily Activities
The family-friendly resort prints out its weekly activities menu to help families plan out their resort time. Typical schedules may include pony rides, evening S'mores, movies on the lawn, horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, family kickball, and sing-a-longs. Most activities are free, although those that are additional are well-advertised so you won't be surprised. Hair braiding takes places throughout the week, at a minimal cost. Bikes can be rented daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to enjoy the grounds.
Playground
A full playground is located near the pool, built on sand for a beachside feel. It's not shaded, so it's often empty during the heat of midday, but becomes active as the sun begins to go down in the late afternoon.
Windflower Spa
How refreshing to find a spa that mom will love, and kids can also enjoy! At Wildflowers SPAhhht (spot) Youth Spa, kids 17 and younger can get hair braiding, nail art, temporary tattoos, as well as a handful of treatments.
