You know an inn is family friendly when its welcome book tells you where to get an extra set of twin sheets in case of a late night accident. Whereas many B&Bs frown upon child guests (or just don’t allow them), The Inn at the Oaks is like staying at a friend’s house — a friend who has the place chock full of stuff for kids. Inn at the Oaks is a family-owned, family-run, wooded property with a playground, basketball court, a small basement playroom for younger kids, and a room on the main floor with a telescope, puzzles, pool table and board games. Our kids’ favorite was a swing from a giant old Oak tree in the back where they could swing back and forth like Tarzan.
In addition to six standard-sized guest rooms, there are five spacious suites. The suites each have a queen bed, plus two twins or bunk beds, a table and chairs, and a DVD player. If you have allergies, request one of the suites with hardwood floors instead of carpet. A delicious hot breakfast is served each morning. Coffee, tea and cocoa are available in the afternoon with a treat. There is also a mini-fridge stocked with sodas and juice boxes throughout the day. The inn is open year-round, with the exception of a winter week when the Anderson family takes a vacation.
