Overview

The InterContinental occupies the former mansion of railway tycoon Mark Hopkins. The upscale hotel sits at the intersection of three cable car lines, just a short walk from Union Square. Rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi and suites include sitting and dining areas. Families can bring along favorite movies to unwind in the evenings, as the rooms include DVD players. InterContinental understands that parents value a night off once in a while. That’s why they provide onsite babysitting, available at the concierge desk. Guests can pay for additional continental breakfast, but with all the area restaurants in Nob Hill and Chinatown, who needs it? The surrounding area also holds many attractions, including museums and theaters.

Nice but No Longer Elite

by Woody3715

My wife and I spent 3 nights staying at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkis. We had an executive rooomon the 15th floor with a buffet breakfast included in the package.. The room decor was dated with a couple stains on the carpeting and the sofa and chairs a little old. The room was extremely quiet and soundproof. The service was satisfactory but nothing special. The breakfast buffet was excellent offering everything from bacon, scrambled eggs and waffles to smoked fish, deli meets and yogurt.

Our biggest disappointment was the Top of the Mark which we have previously visited many times and was a main reason for staying at the hotel. Even just a few years ago, middle aged and young people dressed "to the nines" to go to the Top of the Mark which featured excellent bands and dancing. Now its generally a young crowd, almost everyone dresses in jeans and a single pianist (who was fantastic) strains to get heard over the din of the crowd.

The Top of the Mark, like the Mark Hopkins itself, is no longer a special San Francisco experience.. Its just another San Francisco hotel with no particular reason to stay there. That's too bad.

Very good

Stayed here for a few days and found it very nice waiters and reception staff all very good, although the the American breakfast didn't seem to be worth £68 I suppose that's what you pay in such an establishment on the whole a very nice place
