With its animal attractions, big-league sports scene, and happy beaches, metropolitan Jacksonville -- Florida's biggest city in area and population -- is a natural draw for families. Most vacationers come to stay at the beach, but families should not miss the museums and nature attractions that abound in the greater Jacksonville area on Florida's northeast coast.

The region claims 22 miles of beaches in its three oceanfront communities of Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Atlantic Beach. Downtown Jacksonville, Florida is a bustling place with skyscrapers, historic neighborhoods, culture, sports, and river walks along the St. Johns. In addition to what the immediate area has to offer, it lies within close proximity to the historical allure and beaches of St. Augustine to the south and Amelia Island to the north.

Downtown Jacksonville hotels are generally designed for business travelers, but hotels and restaurants are exceedingly family-friendly no less.
