Overview

The 160 rooms at The Jane in Manhattan are reminiscent of a ship — in fact, they’re called cabins. Families will need to book more than one cabin, as they all only sleep one or two people, but kids will love sleeping in their own bunk bed room next to their parents’ room, with one full, queen or king bed. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, DVD players and free Wi-Fi.

Borrow one of the complimentary bicycles or explore the city on foot. The hotel is located near popular New York City attractions such as the High Line and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Although there is an onsite restaurant — Cafe Gitane — families will also be within walking distance of local eateries, such as Bubby’s High Line and Barbuto.

The Jane was originally built in 1908 and families will love hearing about its 100-year-plus history during their stay.

History is not enough to make a good hotel

by The_Lictor

As much as I wanted to like "The Jane" I can't. Although the history behind it is interesting and although the double rooms come with en-suite, it is just not enough.
When we first went to our room, a huge pile of bin liners full with garbage awaited us as we made our way from the lift to the room. The smell indicated that although it is a non smoking hotel and has smoke detectors, smoking indoors is still a habit with some of the guests.
The room itself was what we expected it to be in size and decoration, but... The amount of dust everywhere was amazing. The glasses above the minibar had such a thick layer of dust, that i doubt anyone has ever used them since they were put there. The smell in the room was an odd mixture and not very pleasant, but better than the one in the corridor (garbage, remember?). The windows are not well sealed and the noise from West street is very loud.
The staff were OK, however in the 2 nights we stayed there we witnessed a guest complaining that things were stolen from his room (and the reception man saying he can do nothing as the house maintenance team are off at 5PM and suggested the guest will come back the next day) and another guest complaining about racial comments and leaving while commenting that he will never come back.
The restaurant and bar are lovely (although pricey, but this is NY).
So although this is consider a cheap stay in NY in a good location, I would not come back.

Great Place and Price for Adventurous Travellers

The Jane was at one time a place where sailors and merchant marine officers could stay. It still has that decor. That means that the average room is quite small. But if you feel ok about a room tha makes you feel a bit like you are on a ship then this is an excellent place for you to stay.
