When to Visit
Summer is the obvious choice for visiting the Jersey Shore; high season is Memorial Day through Labor Day. Many towns all but close down during the winter months, and activity slows to a crawl after Labor Day. For our family, the period right after Labor Day through the end of September -- when the weather is still warm, but the crowds are gone -- is the ideal time to visit.
Getting There
Navigating the Jersey Shore by car is pretty straightforward. The Garden State Parkway runs from north to south, and Shore towns are well-marked.
If you are flying, three airports provide close access to the New Jersey Shore. Those visiting northern towns will probably want to use Newark International Airport (EWR), while those visiting the southern shore will want to use the Atlantic City Airport (ACL) or Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). You'll want to rent a car, though bus service is available from all three airports.
