Overview

For families wanting a resort vacation on Maui, but in a rental home environment, the Kaanapali Alii is one of the island’s most beloved condo resorts. Built in 1982, the Kaanapali Beach Resort area is one of a string of resorts lining one of the largest stretches of beach on the island.

Kannapali’s guests are mostly families, who choose to stay in one of the nearly 300 one- and two-bedroom condos. Each condo is individually owned, but required to maintain a certain standard or décor. No two condos look alike, but all will have a refined luxury similar to those found in traditional resorts. Guests love the condos for large living and dining areas, as well as fully equipped kitchens, and they love the resort for its oversized pool, kids’ programs, and hotel amenities, such as daily housekeeping.

Families return year after year to Kaanapali Alii, and it’s easy to see why.

Vacation/destination wedding

We stayed at the Alii for the first time and it was an amazing 2 bd 2 bath condo. I was thrilled when we arrived that we were in room 116 ground floor with ocean front view. The condo was comfortable, staff was friendly and the ground were well kept. Highly recommend this resort!

Wonderful Condominium Resort

by NYMatt66

We stayed in a large one bedroom condo in the Ka'anapali Ali'i Resort on Maui. The condo was well laid out with one large bedroom, with an additional bed in a den type room which was separated from the living room by sliding wooden doors, which had its own bathroom. The condo was very well equipped with a full kitchen, spacious living area, laundry room in the apartment. The furnishings were recent and in very good condition. There were no resort fees or parking fees. The onsite gym is very well equipped and we used it daily. The resort is on Ka'anapali Beach which is a surf beach (we went a little further afield to find a snorkeling beach). The pool area is pleasant and their are gas grills available for guests. There are no restaurants or bars onsite, but the adjacent hotels are within a very short walk and have a wide range of bars and restaurants. I would not hesitate to return to this property.

Family Activities

Alii Kids Club
The Alii Kids Club program is offered during peak seasons of spring break and winter holidays, as well as from mid-June through August. The program is for children between 6 and 12 and is complimentary. Activities include tennis, hula lessons, dancing, coconut weaving and more.

Beach and Pools
The resort is located along an expansive beach with an activities desk available to assist guests with chairs, cabanas, snorkel gear, and activities. Overlooking the beach are the resort's heated swimming pools, which include a children's wading pool. Beach towels and chairs are complimentary, though beach cabanas will cost extra.

Tennis
The resort offers complimentary tennis on its three resort courts, where a pro is on staff daily for lessons and tennis clinics (also complimentary). The courts are lighted and open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Family Dining

As a condo resort, there is no onsite food or beverage services at Kaanapali Alii. Guests of the resort cook in their own kitchens or enjoy one of the outdoor grills available on the grounds. Restaurant dining can be found at one of the seven hotel properties situated in Kaanapali Beach Resort and Lahaina, where guests receive privileges to charge meals back to the room.

Room Service
Room service is available at the resort, provided by the neighboring Westin Maui.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
The condo resort does not charge a resort fee and provides complimentary parking, Wi-Fi, fitness center access, beach chairs, kids' club (seasonal), newspapers and tennis. A free DVD library of movies is available for all guests to rent movies, too.

The Art of Smart Timing
The most popular time to visit Maui is during the summer, winter holidays and Easter breaks. As a condo resort, many of the homeowners may reserve the holidays and busy months for their personal time, and the best condos and prices may not be available. The off-season provides visitors with more options on condo styles and location, as well as better rates.

Getting There
Getting to Kaanapali Alii from the Kahului Airport will require a taxi or a rental car. Taxis will run about $70. The resort is about 35 minutes from the airport.

Getting Around
Located in the Kaanapali Beach Resort, guests can enjoy dining and shopping at a number of the resorts on property, as well as nearby Lahaina. Shuttle service is available.

For Mom and Dad
The resort provides fitness classes throughout the week, including yoga classes, at its 3,000-square-foot fitness center. The Kaanapali Alii Spa also offers massages, ranging from deep tissue to hot stone massages.
