Overview

When we can’t get — or don’t want — a room at El Tovar, my family likes to stay at either of these lodges. If not in the mood for historic, we prefer the convenience of creature comforts such as two queen or one king bed, in-room coffee maker, small refrigerator, television and private bathroom. About half of the rooms at either lodge have a partial canyon view. From either facility, it’s an easy walk to the restaurants at El Tovar or Bright Angel Lodge.

What a view!

The Grand Canyon was right outside our window! The lodge was clean, warm, not fancy, but who cares! Steps from some of the most breathtaking sites. Grab a reservation if you can! Fine restaurants in the El Tover are only a short walk away. What a place!

Location, location, location

We loved the location of Kachina lodge directly on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Handy for sunrise, sunset. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a Canyon view. It is convenient to El Tovar lodge, Bright Angel Lodge and Kolb Studio, the Lookout, and shops, restaurants. Everything is an easy walk. There is a nice lounge with huge picture windows overlooking the canyon on the first floor. It is quiet. Wifi does not work well in the rooms, you will need to go to El Tovar lobby to access. TV reception also is not good. Bright Angel Trail is nearby if you intend to hike it. Book Kachina Lodge early, as it fills up. I recommend booking this if you can snag a room.
