Reviews

Kauai beach resort

by ROBSPANNE

Great place, the pools are really nice. The only down side is that you can’t walk to any stores near. The ocean view rooms have a great view of the sunrise right over the ocean. The pool even has a slide. I will stay here again.

Good value for money

by Michela R

Good location close to a beautiful little-used beach. We were upgraded from a King Room with Mountain / Garden View to a King with Pool / Ocean View with a great view at dawn. Large comfortable room with furniture although a little dated. Very comfortable bed and spacious and clean bathroom. The buffet breakfast, very good, plentiful and varied, costs $ 24.00 per person but on arrival they give a voucher of $ 5.00 each. Beautiful pool area. We had dinner at the resort restaurant twice and had a good meal at a reasonable price; I also promoted the beach restaurant which offers snacks and excellent smoothies. Very friendly staff, especially at the front desk.

Family Activities

Resort Pools
The Kauai Beach Resort has four pools on the property. The main pool grotto area has exotic tropical landscaping, multiple waterfalls and whirlpool spas. The grotto is home to three of the four pools and both spas. All the pools and one whirlpool spa are for all ages. The other spa is designated as adults only. So, even on busy days at the resort, there is plenty of pool space for everyone to enjoy.

The fourth pool at the resort is one specifically designed for kids! With its sand bottom and lava tube waterslide, this is a favorite area for families. As an added bonus, this pool is sandwiched between the beach and the Driftwood Sand Bar & Grille, so families can enjoy food and drinks and the sounds of the ocean waves all from the comfort of the resort.

Weekly Resort Activities
Guests staying at the resort will get the weekly activity calendar, showing all the activities taking place each week. You'll find Koi fish feeding on the calendar each morning and live music at Shutters Lounge every night. There are also a variety of Hawaiian cultural activities available, such as fresh flower or Ti-leaf lei-making classes, hula lessons, a hula show, and even a sunrise 'Oli (Hawaiian chant) on the ocean lawn. For added fun, candy lei-making classes are also available on some days -- a very popular activity for the kids!

Family Dining

Driftwood Bar & Grille
This poolside restaurant is perfect for grabbing light fare or tropical drinks while you play outside. There are traditional pupus (appetizers) like wings, nachos and onion rings/fries in addition to salads, sandwiches, burgers and wraps. Kids and adults will all be able to find something they like to eat. Lunch is served daily at Driftwood from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m.

Naupaka Terrace
Naupaka Terrace is the largest restaurant onsite with the most diverse menu. Breakfast is served daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Guests can enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet or choose off the a la carte menu of breakfast favorites like omelets, pancakes, French toast, waffles, oatmeal and more.

Dinner is served nightly at Naupaka from 6 to 9 p.m. In addition to a full menu including appetizers, salads, pasta, seafood, steak and more, Naupaka also offers specialty dining options Thursdays through Sundays. This includes options like an all-you-can-eat pasta night and a special seafood buffet. Between the standard menu and kids' menu available, there is a large selection for families here.

Shutters Lounge
This is a great place for families to catch a light dinner. At Shutters Lounge, the atmosphere is a bit more casual than Naupaka Terrace and the food is less expensive. The dinner menu features a variety of seafood appetizers, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. A children's menu is also available. Shutters Lounge is open from 5 to 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday, with happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. and nightly entertainment from 7 to 10 p.m. (11 p.m. on Friday on Saturday).

Nearby Restaurants
Given the proximity to the nearby towns of Lihue, Wailua, and Kapaa, there is no shortage of nearby restaurants for guests interested in venturing off property. Whether you're looking for something fast or a nicer sit-down place, you have well over 100 options within a 15-minute drive in either direction on the highway from the resort. For those interested in a luau experience while on the island, the Smith's Garden Luau is less than 3-miles from the Kauai Beach Resort.

The Art of Smart Timing
Kauai's busiest travel months are those when most kids are on school breaks, including the winter holiday season and the summer months. The high season generally runs from December through spring break (early April), when you can expect to pay the highest rates for rooms on the island. During winter holidays, you can expect to pay the highest rates for airfare and rooms. The summer months (mid-June to mid-August) make up the next highest season in terms of rates and number of visitors to the island.

The low season, in which you'll usually find the lowest prices and fewer visitors, is during the fall (September through November) and the late spring (mid-April to mid-June). The bonus for guests traveling during this time is that these months are typically regarded as having the best weather on the island.

For those especially interested in humpback whale watching, be sure to plan your trip between January and early April. During the height of whale season, whales can often be seen from land at various points all over the island.

Getting There
Visitors to Kauai fly into the Lihue Airport, just 3 miles from the Kauai Beach Resort. The Kauai Beach Resort offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport, as well as to nearby golf courses and shops. For visitors wanting to explore the Garden Isle (which is recommended), renting a car is a necessity on the island.

After picking up your rental car from the airport, the hotel is just an easy and very short drive away. Guests wanting to pick up any groceries or forgotten items can stop at the Walmart in Lihue or other shops nearby before heading to the resort.

Getting Around
Conveniently located just 3 miles from the airport and almost exactly equidistant from Kauai's North Shore and South Shore, getting around the island from the Kauai Beach Resort is very easy. Barring any major traffic delays, the overwhelming majority of favorite beaches and must-see destinations are within a 30-minute drive in either direction from the resort.

The resort fee covers onsite self-parking or valet parking.

For Mom and Dad
If you have a babysitter and are able to have an evening out without the kids, you could plan a romantic evening right on the property. Start by booking massages at the Hawaiian Rainforest Spa & Salon, then enjoy a nice dinner at Naupaka Terrace.

If you're looking to head off-property, Oasis on the Beach is a lovely choice in nearby Kapaa. This oceanfront restaurant offers a beautiful dining setting, with 90 percent of its food locally sourced.
