![]() | Calvin Coolidge Homestead 3780 Route 100A Plymouth, VT The 30th President of the United States grew up near Killington in picturesque Plymouth. Coolidge was vacationing here in August 1923, when, as Vice President, he was informed that Warren Harding had died and he would become the next President. ![]() | Mountain Bike Killington Killington, VT Downhill ski areas are perfectly set up to provide a taste of mountain biking. They've got a pre-established trail network, of course, as well as lifts, which means you can take the laborious climbing out of the picture, if you want. The Killington Mountain Bike Center rents bikes and have knowledgeable staffs that can set you up with everything from easy rides through meadows to technical single-track trails. ![]() | Ski Killington Killington, VT Warm up at Ramshead, a popular slope for families with an assortment of greens and blues. A nice little cruiser is Swirl on the outermost edge of Killington. Then head over to Skye Peak, which features a tantalizing mix of runs for all levels, sweeping through the dense forest before ending at the base of Bear Mountain. Gateway and Bear Claw are nice little jaunts. There's also Stash, a half-mile trail created by Jake Burton for freestyle enthusiasts. Stand at the bottom of Bear Mountain to watch the expert skiers tackle the bumps of Outer Limits. Pico has lots of fairly easy and interesting cruisers, peaking in difficulty with Pike and 49er. Killington features a full day of instruction for children ages 4 and up. Two and 3 year olds also have a chance to ski in morning outdoor sessions. ![]() | Snowmobile Tours Killington , VT The Killington Resort offers guided snowmobile treks through Calvin Coolidge State Forest, offering magnificent vistas of the Green Mountains. Miles of groomed trails snake through the dense woods. Choose from a one-hour scenic mountain tour, suited for small children riding with their parents, or a two-hour "Radical Ride," which is an adventurous journey for older kids. ![]() | X-C Ski Killington Killington, VT Opened in 1971, Mountain Meadows is set high in a mountain hollow at 1,400 feet near the slopes of Killington. Of the 57 km of trails, the ones around Kent Lake are ideal for novices. The sweeping Pond Plunge or Orchard trails are popular with experienced skiers who twist through the woods past old apple tree groves. The ski center is known for its exemplary ski school run by former US Olympic coach, Mike Gallagher. The rental shop is also one of the best in the state with lots of high-end demos and gear for sale. Another perfect spot for gliding in almost guaranteed snow is the Mountain Top Cross Country Ski Resort. The first commercial cross country ski center in the state, Mountain Top offers 60 km of trails through the woods and fields with picturesque views of Chittenden Reservoir and the main ridge of the Green Mountains.
