My kids had the best time, I never saw them except when they wanted money. The pool, they had movie night and overall the best time for myself. It was also a bonus that my sisters live about 5 minutes away. I have gone back again with a friend and more +again we loved, loved it. If you are visiting the DC area stay at this resort and drive into DC you won't be disappointed.

Last year we were on a tight budget so we stayed close to home. We visited Lansdowne Resort, 30-45 minutes from outside Washington, DC. We did a few days in the city, doing museums, etc; but it was so hot, we found we really just wanted to lounge by more +the pool. We found Lansdowne Resort 30 minutes from downtown DC. Just don't leave in rush hour; if you leave mid-day you won't hit any traffic.

The resort was spectacular; really friendly staff that welcomed us with a Mascot called "sharkey" for the children. The staff was not only friendly to the children; but made an effort to tell us about times the children could be occupied so my husband and I could get a masssage (WOW...Spa Minerale...fabulous!) or have a few drinks on the patio. They have a program called "resortrascals" (or something like that), where the very capable staff occupy your children for you.

and lots of free stuff for the kids. ole fashioned fun, belly flop contest in the pool, pie eating contest, free arts and crafts. Oh and the pool area. 5 pools, water slide for kids (and my husband!) and water jets. Poolside dining so everyone can get fed and really great cocktails served poolside. Alot of hotels don't do that any more. A nice touch. But get to the pool early; chairs go quickly when sold out.

Then on Friday night during the summer they have this Summer Concert series with fun dance music and outdoor BBQ type food; not cheap, but really fresh and good quality, which is important to us. Good food and wine, plus a place for the kids.

We did spend some time driving around the area; lots of civil war battlefields nearby and cool antique shopping. Really this was such a relief after being in the hot city for a few days.
