Our family recently stayed at The Lorien for my nephew's wedding. My company's corporate hotel is the Hotel Monaco, which I love and happens to be right down the street. However, we chose The Lorien so I could check out the property (which looked more +spectacular on the web site) and to be closer to the Metro.
I emailed in advance because I wanted to see if I could get a goldfish for our room like they do at the Monaco and if we could use the Monaco's pool. Both requests were granted. In fact, they don't actually have goldfish at The Lorien. They brought one from the Monaco just for us. The woman at guest services was also very sweet and called to check on the fish. They also gave my daughter a goodie bag with a nice note as I mentioned that she was going to be a flower girl that weekend.

The location was perfect. We had King Street for local shopping and dining and DC was a quick Metro ride away. The only downside, which is an issue for all of Old Town, is parking is another $20 daily at most lots.

We only ate at the restaurant after the wedding, but The Tasting Room food was wonderful. Even though it was clearly a trendy spot, I felt totally comfortable bringing my 6 year old.

In general, I am a huge fan of Kimpton properties. I've only stayed at The Lorien with our daughter, but I actually wouldn't hesitate to stay at any of them as a family.
