The Art of Smart Timing
In general, high season in Los Cabos runs from mid-December through April; shoulder season is May through June or July, as well as mid-October to mid-December. Low season is August to mid-October. Avoid Los Cabos -- especially Cabo San Lucas -- in March and April, when college students on spring break flood the area. Also, summers can be brutally hot.
Getting Around
If not renting a car, then book your transfers from the airport when you book your lodging reservation (at least 48 hours before your departure, as recommended by the tourist board). With a pre-arranged pickup, you avoid dealing with the many people in and out of the terminal who will solicit you to ride with them.
Getting around Los Cabos is easy. Many hotels offer complimentary shuttle service from their properties to Cabo San Lucas, and your hotel can call a reliable taxi for you.
Many airlines serve the SJD Los Cabos International Airport. They including American, Continental, United, US Airways, Alaska and Delta.
Off the Radar
Todos Santos
If your gradeschoolers and teens like road trips and shopping, then consider visiting Todos Santos, about 45-minutes north of Cabo San Lucas. Todos Santos still retains the charm of a small artisans' village. Browse the galleries for paintings and the boutiques for silver necklaces, colorful platters, mugs and hand-woven baskets. Also enjoy a snack at one of the cafes.
