My family of four took the 2 plans, 2 taxis and one ferry to the most wonderful family vacation in St. John, USVI. We stayed at the Maho Base Camps for 5 nights and six days. Maho is very family friendly and caters to people who enjoy the simple more +things like nature, family and friendly people. Maho is in a secluded area about 20 minutes from the Ferry dock. It is located on the side of a hill so there are many stairs but unbelievable views of the ocean.

The tree house like tents are tents on wooden platforms. They are all screened in and each have a deck. They also have a propane stove, kitchenware, 2 twin beds, a futon like sofa, a plastic kitchen table with 4 chairs and a cooler. You need to provide all the food, drinks and other comforts of home but Maho provides the linens, pillows and one of a kind experience. We shopped at the local grocery store in town and enjoyed our meals on the deck. Our children (ages 3 and 5) loved every minute of this once in a lifetime experience.

Our days were spent hiking, swimming, and exploring the island. We hiked up and down the stairs to get to everything from the bathroom to the beach and restaurant. Maho has a gift shop, restaurant (fixed menu), mini store and beach equipment rentals. We rented a car to explore the island but many of the families we met did not leave Maho. However, I would recommend enjoying the whole island since each area is unique and beautiful. Every sight is breathtaking and my children loved looking for crabs, turtles, coral, fish, birds, and anything else they could catch a glimpse at.

I highly recommend taking a trip to this wonderful place. It is for those who are looking for adventure and a way to appreciate how beautiful our earth can be. In addition, the staff and other guests all had a sincere kindness to them. This beats any crowds, lines, stores or planed out trips that you may think to take. My children are still asking "when we can go back to St. John". The entire adventure was well worth every penny. We paid about $2600 for the entire trip from Boston during the month of November. We hope to get back there again sooner than later.
