A nice resort with a fabulous pool area! The wave pool was a huge hit for the entire family and we really didn't have to leave. However, we did want to see the hustle &; bustle of the Las Vegas strip and it's other attractions and, for that more +purpose, Mandalay is too far off to navigate happily without a rental car. If I want to swim I will stay here again...if it's not that big of a deal I'd suggest something more mid-strip.

While recent reports indicate that Las Vegas has moved away from a family orientation, we continue to find it to be affordable and fun. We have stayed at Mandalay Bay for a few days the past two summers, and the kids have really enjoyed it. The more +sand on the beach (lots of sand poured next to the pools) will scorch your bare feet in August, but sidewalks through the sand allow for a stroller to be pushed near the water, and parked near your chairs. I brought inexpensive inner tubes along in my suitcase (instead of purchasing the hotel ones for about $15 each), and the gift store staff were extremely nice about using the air pump to blow them up, even though the inner tubes clearly weren't purchased there. We used them in the "lazy river"; I wished I had brought along one of those kiddie inner tubes with a seat in it for my 2 year old. The food in the pool area is expensive (about $9.00 for a hot dog), but there is a food court in the hotel that helps with budgeting. We go on an adventures every day (to Red Rock Canyon, touring other hotels, Hoover Dam, etc.) and it is easy to find lots of restaurants and fast food places around the city. I typically reserve the room in the spring, and then check for specials every few days until we leave, which last year brought our rate to average about $120 a night. It was money well spent for a very nice hotel with a great pool area.
