Overview

What better way to get in touch with nature than at a campground in the Grand Canyon. Mather Campground is just that, offering year-round tent and RV sites in Grand Canyon Village. This type of lodging is for families who want a rustic experience. Family campsites are available for very affordable rates, especially during the winter months. Grills are at each site. A general store supplies fire wood and sundries. Well-maintained showers and laundry facilities are near the campground for a surcharge. Unlike most hotels, four-legged family members can come along (on leashes). Due to the popular location of the campground, advanced reservations are recommended for stays between March 1 and November 15. Free shuttle buses transport guests to scenic overlooks, trailheads and the Visitor Center.

Super easy camping

by MaureenJK

Definitely an easy to stay at campground! If you're used to backcountry camping like we are, you might find it a tad crowded, but we were prepared for that and didn't mind it at all. The fire ring is nice, but be aware there is no picking firewood so be sure to bring some if you want a fire in the evening. Also, it's god to check their opening times as well, they close for the late fall/winter months. Best to have a reservation beforehand too, while checking in there were a few groups that had just shown up and were surprised they couldn't get a site, they were all taken. The toilets are unusually nice for camping, they are regular flushing toilets and you have a sink to wash your hands. It's a great location to access the best viewpoints too. I'd come back in a heartbeat! Super nice value for your money!

van camping made easy

Wildlife at your door without all the grand cost of lodging at the South Rim. The desert side is amazing and along with elk we saw a tarantula walking along a path. Our visit was in mid October so not a lot of crowding. Restroom offer a clean place to shower. Firewood for purchase and shuttle stop is close by.
