We went on a trip last March just after I was diagnosed with cancer. We were hesitant to go on our trip because we were not sure we would be able to focus on having a good time. We were so glad we did go because the resort was fantastic and the kids
more +had so much fun. The food was good, the pool was great, the room was nice, the people were very nice and the daycare was great for both our kids. Our one year old did great and it took our 7 year old a few days to warm up to day camp but the 3rd day he did finally go and wanted to keep going back. The grounds were gorgeous. The beach is not great but I think the man made beach they had and the pool made up for it.

Melia Puerto Vallarta is an all inclusive resort located in the hotel zone of P.V. approx 10 min drive from the airport. Also 10 min drive from downtown P.V. for shopping or sightseeing. Check in at hotel was welcoming and friendly, our room
more +was not ready when we arrived (1 hour before checkin time), so we went to the all inclusive lunch first. When back to check in , our room was ready. We had room 2401 (bldg 2, 4th flr) which had a partial view of the ocean and hotel grounds.
Hotel room was clean and cool (air conditioning worked fine). This is an older resort, but there have been many upgrades (flat screen tv, etc). Bathroom was larger than some other resorts I've been to. They should put in a fan in the bathroom though, as it gets very humid when showering. Beds were decent. We stayed in a family room that could sleep 5 people (2 adults , 3 kids). There were 2 double beds, and bunk bed. Only time we were in our rooms was to change for dinner and to sleep.
There are kids clubs divided by age, they even have a baby club which most resort don't have (not that we have a baby, but different to see). My daughter went to the kids club almost every day to do an activity or two. When she wanted to join us at the pool, one of the kids club staff would bring her over. They also had a video game room for older kids (which is nice to get them out off the hot sun occasionally). There is a climbing wall for ages 7+ that was opened from 3-5 every day (no charge). Throughout the day there were activities for all ages, rifle shooting and archery were daily activities for ages 12+. Kayak's were there for use from 9:30am - 2pm (weather permitting). As well as the activities staff engaging in pool games throughout the day, and water aerobics every morning. There was yoga every day at 9:30am also, but I never got the chance to go to that. We did try out the tennis once , with no problems getting the time we wanted. There is also ping pong, billiards and foosball tables for the guests use. Always something to keep the kids and adults entertained.
The pool is huge, and goes from gradual water level to approx 4-4.5 feet deep with a water fountain in the middle. There is also a swim up bar that makes easy access for beverages during the day.
We visited the week after our kids spring break from school. The hotel did seem quite full, but we never had a problem getting pool chairs or doing any of the activities.
Buffet dinners is always something you can find to eat, even for the pickiest of eaters. The Mexican restaurant (no reservations needed) was excellent, the fajitas were delicious and the servers were quick to please always asking if we wanted anything.
Buffet lunch at la palapas was good also, lots of choice every day. And the pool side food was always a hit with the kids serving hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries and ice cream most of the afternoon.
The weather while we were there was perfect, hot and sunny, with a slight breeze.
I would recommend this resort for a family with kids, and my family cannot wait to go back next year.
