Broders Southside Pasta Bar 5000 Penn Ave S•Minneapolis, MN •612-925-9202 Fresh rigatoni, fettuccine and penne peppers the menu at Broders Southside Pasta Bar, where chefs cook up just-made noodles by the hour. The fare is extensive and prices are reasonable at this popular Italian place. Additionally, there's a children's menu with three pasta choices and one pizza option. But the best part? On Mondays, kids eat free through 6:30 p.m. |
Buca di Beppo 1204 Harmon Place•Minneapolis, MN •612-288-0138 Order Italian dishes in heaping family-style portions at Buca di Beppo, a homey family restaurant located in Downtown West. Menu options include all the typical Italian-American offerings -- from fried calamari to pizza to shells stuffed with gooey Italian cheeses. Because of its family-style pricing (most things can be ordered two ways: small or large), Buca di Beppo is an economical option for groups with many mouths to feed. |
Convention Grill & Fountain 3912 Sunnyside Rd•Edina, MN •952-920-6881 The Convention Grill is located in nearby Edina, Minnesota, just a short drive from Minneapolis. At this historic 1950's diner, families can order milkshakes made from scratch; thick, crispy fries cooked with the skin on 'em; and cheeseburgers. Other choices include meat loaf sandwiches, Caesar salads and hot fudge sundaes. A kids' menu is available. |
Pumphouse Creamery 4754 Chicago Ave•Minneapolis, MN •612-825-2021 For a few scoops of fresh sugary ice cream atop a crispy waffle cone, make a date at Pumphouse Creamery, which just might serve the best ice cream in Minneapolis (depending on which locals you talk to). The cold stuff on offer comes from local cows and is made fresh on site. The place doesn't offer a huge array of flavors (you'll probably find less than 10 kinds of cream on the menu), but the ice cream is divine. Small "kiddie" scoops are available for young patrons. |
Rainforest Cafe 102 S Avenue•Bloomington, MN •952-854-7500 Everything is tropical-themed at Mall of America's Rainforest Cafe, from the dishes (think "Lava Nachos" or "Rainforest Burger") to the decor. Trees tower inside the restaurant and waterfalls flow near tables of hungry humans. Young diners get free activity books, as well as a decent kids' menu that has the typical stuff: chicken fingers, grilled cheese and the like. Order a child's frozen drink and your little one will receive a collectable frog cup to take home. |
