Getting There and Around
While Moab does have a municipal airport, with daily scheduled flights from Denver International Airport via Great Lake Airlines, many visitors fly into Grand Junction, Colorado (GDJ), via America West, Delta Connection, United Express or Frontier Airlines. From Grand Junction it's a 120-mile drive via rental car to Moab.
American Spirit Shuttle offers shuttle service from GDJ. Moab does not have public bus transportation in town, although there shuttle services that can drive you to and pick you up from hiking and biking trailheads. Moab has one private, licensed taxi company.
Most Moab visitors either drive their own car or rent a vehicle to get around town and to the outlying sights, as there is no public transportation to important landmarks like Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse State Park.
The Moab Information Center at the corner of Main and Center streets should be your first stop upon arriving in town. It's staffed with friendly folks every day of the year but Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
The Art of Smart Timing
Moab in the summer months is hot - really hot. Although the average high temperature in July is 101F, this is a popular time for families to visit, since kids are out of school for summer break. March, April and May, as well as September and October, are probably the most pleasant months to visit the Moab area. Winter brings average high temperatures in the 40s and 50s, with few snowfalls in the valleys. No matter when you visit, count on evening temperatures dropping dramatically when the sun goes down, characteristic of a desert environment.
Travel Tips
While the big kids are off biking, hiking or river rafting with one parent, toddlers and preschoolers might like to play at Rotary Park, with its playground equipment, tree-house deck and over-sized musical instruments, like giant xylophones.
