Overview

The Modern Honolulu has earned a reputation as one of the most culturally progressive, modern and chic luxury hotels in Honolulu. The property places attention in every minute detail of the hotel, from the property’s two world class restaurants, to the casually minimalist decor that draws attention to Waikiki’s natural beauty, to the wonderful onsite spa and multiple pools.

Each of the hotel’s 353 swanky rooms, suites and $5,000-a-night penthouses is impeccably clean and tastefully appointed, including at least one 46-inch LCD TV with cable and movies on demand, complimentary high-speed Internet access, down comforters and pillows on a variety of queen or double beds, specially programmed iPods and iPads with docking stations, Keurig coffeemakers, full-sized baths with glass-enclosed showers or tubs and Terrazzo counters, video game systems, and more. Every room has a wonderful view, and cribs and rollaway beds are available upon request.

Enjoy a top-tier meal at the hotel’s signature and luxurious Morimoto Waikiki restaurant, where Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto serves guests his incredibly unique dishes, using a variety of Japanese and Western ingredients. Enjoy island-grown ingredients, the best fish from Hawaii and Japanese waters and seamless design at this island favorite. Or head on over The Grove and Passageway, also onsite, and grab some grub served up by the distinguished Executive Chef Scott Toner — the man also responsible for the fare served by the resort’s 24-hour, in-room food service.

If your kids aren’t enthralled by the two pools, in-room DVD collection, on-demand movies, video game systems or fitness center, worry not — the resort is located mere feet from some of the most beautiful stretches of beach on the island, along with all the other family-friendly fun to be found on Honolulu.

Changing of direction for The Modern

by Kscooter68

Check in average, and we had to chase welcome pack but received nothing but papers and all they cared about was selling "Time Share"...
Only choose The Modern as it had 2 pools, but they decided to close the adults pool but did not bother to notify guest prior and surely they would have known it was going to be closed for renovations and no apologies to guest. Also renovation drilling right in the middle of people enjoying what should be a relaxing day around the pool again nothing mentioned and no "here is a cocktail for your inconvenience"
Only 3 staff members were lovely and really cared about the guest Monique by the pool and Mark and Matt at the study bar as for the rest pretty poor and considering they are all about tips, they need to lift the game!
Also on departure no farewell no thanks for staying and visiting us, I can promise you we won't be back there are so many options in Honolulu....

Great pool - shame about the protesters

by Nixsta1

We only had 36 hours in this hotel and we won't be back. Although the staff were lovely, the rooms are small and the bathrooms tired. The beds are too hard and duvets are not supplied, just a thin blanket. Unfortunately we were there on a Monday, which meant we subjected to an hour of protesting while sitting by the pool. We had checked out and therefore couldn't go back to our room to escape the loudspeakers and chanting. We were waiting to be offered some sort of compensation but the staff just carry on as if they are not there. That's when I discovered they are there every Monday and Friday afternoon for an hour. Our ears were ringing for the rest of the day. Such a shame it was sold to an off shore company. I'm sure it was a lovely boutique hotel originally.
