Overview

Set on Newport’s main thoroughfare, America’s Cup Avenue, with many rooms overlooking the adjacent harbor, it’s hard to top the convenience of this Marriott locale. The large glass-enclosed indoor pool is a hit with the kids after a long day of touring mansions, while mom and dad will appreciate the latest fitness equipment. Everyone will be happy with the location, minutes from the shops on Thames Street.

Overpriced

by Sandy M

I regret that I used 100,000 points to stay at this hotel! Yes, it is a beautiful piece of property, ideally located, but it is overpriced. Either that or Marriott inflates the cost of the room so that you have to use that many points, but I still had to pay $35 a day for valet parking, $25 a day for the mandatory “activity”? Fee and the $53 in taxes on the $900-1,000 hotel cost!!!! So my “free” room cost me another $173!!! You get one free keurig cup of coffee in your room and 2 small bottles of water, if you want more well, it’ll cost you. We got your standard room with two queen beds, and although I’d requested a room with a view, what I got was a room with sliding glass doors that did not open to a slab of cement with another half a wall of cement looking over a building under construction! I wrote to them about this asking to at the very least get the $ I paid them $173. But they only offered 10,000 points back. They can keep them as far as I am concerned, it will be a long long time before I stay at another Marriott hotel!

mostly good, some not so much

First of all, the property itself is great. The location is superb. The view is spectacular. There is a lot to like about this property. The breakfast is the concierge's lounge is fantastic.

So, what's not to like? It is pricey. But that was expected.

But the evening servings in the concierge's lounges were pitiful. Which is very surprising considering how well they do breakfast. You have to walk to the bar, purchase your drinks and carry them back to the concierge's lounge. And the evening hors d'oeuvres were are poor as any Marriott I have been at.

Finally, the TV selection was very, very limited. and you could not watch the American League championship between the Yankees and Astros in your room. If you wanted to watch the game, you had to go to the bar. I was quite disappointed in this limited TV selection.

Finally, it is valet parking only. And it is not cheap.

Overall, the good outweighed the bad, and I would recommend this hotel. But there were some noticeable shorting comings.
