![]() | Chutes Cologne 100 Promenade du Parc-des-Chutes Mansfield, Canada • 819-683-2770 You'll find Chutes Cologne in Mansfield, Quebec (part of Quebec's Outaouais Region), which is about a two-hour drive northwest of Ottawa. The park is home to the famous Via Ferrata, a climbing trail that rises more than 1,000 feet along a steep rock wall -- the climax of which is a 150-foot cable tightrope over a vertigo-inducing canyon. To take on the Via Ferrata, children must be at least 4 feet, 10 inches tall, and be accompanied by an adult (the youngest climbers are usually around 11 or 12 years old). There's also an on-site children's ariel challenge, a series of 13 kid-friendly obstacles, for youngsters ages 5 to 12, and a smaller jungle-gym structure for even younger kids. Best For: |
![]() | Creative Wheel Centre 327 Route Principale Val-des-Monts, Canada • 613-820-1919 The Creative Wheel Centre is a mountain bike school run by two-time Canadian national team athlete Dominique Larocque. With 123 meters of mountainside elevation, the Creative Wheel Centre is a world-class training facility that's perfect for both beginners and more experienced riders. Students can enroll in five-day training camps, or families can take eco-ride tours with an experienced instructor or sign up for a beginner's class for the whole gang. Larocque is flexible in terms of mountain biking lessons or packages, so it's best to contact the school directly for more information if you're interested in fitting a mountain biking experience into your family vacation. Don't worry if you didn't bring your bike -- equipment for adults and children (including helmets and padding) is available for rent on site. The mountain biking school is located about a 40-minutes drive north of Ottawa. Best For: |
![]() | LaFleche Adventure Cave & Ariel Park 255 Route Principale Val-des-Monts, Canada • 877-457-4033 Located just 35 minutes from downtown Ottawa in the province of Quebec, LaFleche Adventure Cave & Ariel Park is an excellent place for families to have some outdoor fun and test their limits. The park features a challenging adventure aerial park for adults and children that are at least five feet tall, and there's also an additional kid's aerial park for kids between 4 and 5 feet tall. Each park has zip lines, tree houses and suspended bridges (trust us -- it's a blast!). If you're sick of swinging in the treetops, head down (really far down) underground to Lafleche Cave, the largest cave system on the Canadian Sheild. You can't explore the cave on your own, but tours are available daily. LaFleche Adventure Cave & Ariel Park offers money-saving family rates, which cover admission for two adults and two children, and vary based on which parts of the park you'd like to visit.
