We arrived at Our Lucaya Resort amid a huge crowd of others from the Celebration Bahamas cruise line. We were early but tried to at least leave our name as having arrived. We were told bluntly and without explanation that we'd have to wait till more +3:00. Ok, no problem. We walked to the Straw Market for something to drink and then down to the ocean to admire the view. We arrived back in the lobby at 2:30 and found it was literally packed with lines and lines of people waiting to get rooms. There was no clear way to determine where one line ended and another picked up. In my opinion, the roping that's used at most family attractions would have been very helpful. Signs stating which line was for what would have helped us all too. We tried to ask staff members what the problem was and we were pretty much ignored and told to just keep pour place in line. As we got closer to the main desk (after 3 hours in line) we could hear some of the problems...computers were freezing up...desk staff were going to the back room and staying for 10-15 min at a time saying they needed to check on something...one couple was given a key, went to their room only to find it already inhabited by another couple..yet a another group of couple who had specifically booked adjoining rooms ended up on separate floors in different parts of the resort...finally it was our turn and we were told that the couple in our room had decided to stay another day and at that point in time we didn't have a room. So after waiting for another half hour or so we were given a 2nd floor ocean front room with a king size bed. Better management, informed staff and communication with the guests would make a definite plus in these types of situations.
So much for the negative ~ now on to the positive!

From the moment we stepped into our room we were literally in paradise. It was very clean with a super comfortable bed. Our balcony just topped the palm trees and gave an excellent view of the pools and ocean beyond. The pools were kept clean and the entire grounds appeared to be monitored for cleanliness. We ate at the Straw Market at one of the many outdoor restaurant/bars and enjoyed the friendly sights and sounds of the locals. Our ultimate adventure was The Dolphin Encounter. It was a once in a lifetime experience. The trainers were very informative and fun and the dolphins were unbelievable! I'd recommend this to anyone wishing a true family experience.

I went to the Bahamas on a timeshare resort promoted by Caribbean cruise lines. The destination was Bahamas and the hotel they quoted was the Lucaya Reef resort. Upon our arrival, we discovered the Lucaya Reef was "under construction" - more +since Aug with no signs or any work done. Waiting 5 hours for our hotel room with nasty and unresponsive receptionists. We were promised a 1st class room overlooking the ocean. Instead we were given a room overlooking the parking lot with generators steaming up our balcony. To change the room took over 2 hours with numerous denials of agreeing to change it from various staff.

Of course this hotel had ridiculous child programs. The child care center advertised was in the "under construction" hotel. This one had a febreeze smelly conference room on the 10th floor which was hardly ever staffed. Not that my child would even want to enter there.

The room was very nice after we finally were in it. Of course the door didn't lock, the minibar was broken and the lights were poor in the bathroom.

The pool was pretty cold. The ocean was probably warmer. Very little to do. Expensive parasailing and motorcycling on the water in front of the hotel.

The bahamas are a pretty boring place and unfriendly place unless you like to spend your eve's in a gambling hall.

Taking off for the kids' Spring Break, we spent four nights at Our Lucaya with our 9-year-old daughter, and wished it could have been much longer! We loved the many pools and the beach was beautiful. The hotel itself was very nice as well - clean, more +comfortable and very well kept. The best thing was the location and what was around the resort. Being right across the street from the Lucaya Market gave us many options for eating and someplace to walk around and shop. We ate all of our meals across the street, except for quick lunches at the pool-side restaurants. These were fine, but a bit pricey, and about what you'd expect at a resort like this. Watersports, snorkel trips, etc., are available right on the beach at the resort. We never even thought about taking a taxi anywhere else, and could have easily gone much longer without running out of options in the immediate area. We would definitely go back!
