Philadelphia Planning & Tips
Getting There and Around
It's so easy to get around this city. Whether you take the SEPTA train line, bus, trolley, or taxi, Philadelphia's downtown, is easy to maneuver. The best way to get around is by foot. I'm originally from New York, and I walk pretty much everywhere.

What I love about Philadelphia is that it is almost impossible getting lost. The city was designed by William Penn. (Pennsylvania is named after William Penn, who founded what was then called the colony of Philadelphia in 1682.) He created an easy-to-follow grid with street numbers. Everything is well marked, and if you aren't sure of your directions, just ask someone -- the people here are quite friendly.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is about 30 minutes from Center City Philadelphia.

Visitor's Bureau
Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Market has an interactive exhibit and clean bathrooms, which is always important when traveling with kids. If you are planning on taking a noon tour, it is a good idea to get there early in the morning, or even the previous day. You can also call and reserve tickets.
