The Art of Smart Timing
Summer, which officially begins for Quebecois with a June 24 celebration, is high season, although rates may rise before then and continue through fall when the foliage creates a dazzling display of color and the cruise ships come into port. Winter, in general, is low season with rates increasing during holidays, including Quebec's noteworthy Winter Carnival, typically held for two weeks at the end of January into February.
Getting There
Jean-Lesage International Airport is about 20 minutes from Quebec City. Among the airlines flying into Quebec are Air Canada, Continental Express, United, Porter and Westjet. Via Rail Canada trains arrive at the Gare du Palais (station), 450 rue de-la-Gare-du-Palais.
Getting Around
When you get tired of walking, take a taxi or board one of the blue-and-white Ecolobuses, which encircles the Old City. (Nominal fee.) In Quebec City, instead of hailing taxis, you line up at a taxi stop or call for a car. Taxi Coop, 418-525-5191, is one of several taxi companies.
