I can't recommend staying at the all inclusive Reef Resort because this hotel is small, under construction and the kids program is only ok.

First of all let me say the Reef Hotel is much smaller then it looks. The photos online are more +aerial shots which make this hotel looking larger then it seems. Don't get me wrong a small hotel can be a good thing when traveling with children, but this hotel was not one of them. Because of its smaller size your children witnessed everything that going on at the hotel that includes the swim up bar. Need I say more?

Secondly the Reef hotel was going under major renovations, so there was construction or maintenance going on every day of our stay at the Reef. The worst part of this was constructions started very early in the morning so that the workers could beat the heat. You can only image what it's like for a parent to finally get their children down only to be woken at the crack of dawn to the banging sound of construction. Not good.

Lastly the kids program was ok. My daughter seemed to enjoy it since there were only a few kids in the program, so she did receive a lot of personal attention which was nice for her. The playground area for the kids was only the size of a two car drive way with a basket ball hoop and it was behind the one of the main builds. I was not impressed at all. Also there isn't a kid's pool area either and there isn't any family programs at this hotel...My daughter enjoyed it but I thought the program need a lot of work and I was not impressed.

Overall the Reef is not a hotel I would return to nor can I recommend it. It's every bit of a three star hotel if that, and everything from the property grounds, hotel, service, rooms, food, pool, and kids program was only OK. The only redeeming feature the Reef hotel had is was beech area and it s view. It's one of the best in Playa and the resort is only a 10 minute walk to Down Town Playa del Carmen.

I will return to Playa with my family because it is Absolutely beautiful and a great town, but I won't stay at this hotel. I would recommend staying at the Rui Place Next door. NOW that hotel looked beautiful and had everything a family would want.
