Renaissance Hotel, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Location/Upkeep of the Hotel - We did not have a car, just took a cab from the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the cruise port. The hotel is located very conveniently for walking more +to stores and restaurants nearby. There is a Walgreens across the street, a Ross Store, Dollar Store and others in the shopping center one block away, a grocery store a block or two away. There are several restaurants also within walking distance. The Renaissance is a very nice, clean, upscale hotel with a restaurant on the premises. It is located very, very close to the cruise ship pier.

Family Activities - The hotel has a pool, but we didn't get the chance to use it. We walked about two blocks and caught the water taxi for a narrated ride around the waterway. Got off the taxi at the beach area and went down to the water for a bit, then walked around the shops and had dinner on the patio in front of a Mexican restaurant across from the beach.

Accommodations - We stayed in a room with two queen beds. There were very nice amenities provided in the bathroom and the bedding was really comfortable. The housekeeping staff did a great job, the rooms and all areas of the hotel were quite clean.

Kid-friendly Dining - For dinner the first night we walked to Chuck's steakhouse about 2-3 blocks away. They have a casual atmosphere with good variety on the menu and a big salad bar. Mornings we walked about a block and a half to get breakfast at Einstein Bagels. It was perfect, we could order egg sandwiches with whatever we wanted on them. There were muffins, every flavor of bagel and toppings, warm cinnamon strudel coffeecake, juices, eggs, bacon, cheese, fresh fruit bowls...

Friendliness of Staff - The staff members at the hotel were very friendly and helpful at check-in/check-out and when we asked for information about the area.

Best Time to Visit - We stayed for two nights in August, before leaving for a cruise. I booked online with the hotel and there was special pricing going on city-wide to promote tourism.

Family Perks - Everything is so close by, we didn't have to spend money on a rental car. The area seemed very safe and we felt quite comfortable walking around the area, even at night.

The hotel is not at the water's edge, but the rooms on one side of the hotel have a water view if on a high enough floor. I believe we were around the seventh floor and had a great view of the 17th Avenue drawbridge opening and closing. Our family enjoyed that, since it was a new sight for us. We could also see yachts and various other boats traveling in the waterway.

This is a very nice hotel, in a great location and we had a wonderful stay!
