good choice for families

We recently stayed at the Residence Inn Mission Valley San Diego for 5 nights. We had a 1 bedroom suite with 2 queen beds. This is a great set up for families. Young children can go to bed and the adults have use of the living area. The vanity more +and sink are outside the bathroom. This is convenient but not if others are sleeping as it is not separated from the bedroom. The suite has wired (no wifi!) internet and tv in the bedroom and living area. There is a table with 3 chairs, and a kitchen with stovetop, full size fridge with ice maker, microwave and dishwasher. Handy to keep some snacks.

The hotel has a comprehensive breakfast and Mon-Thurs they offer a light evening meal and beverage service. We did not have much interaction with the staff. One note is that parking is $10/day. This seems odd given the location of this hotel. The room was clean except for the cupboards. I had read this on a review - the fronts really do need to be cleaned. There is a pool, whirlpool and kids pool. There is also a sport court in front of the hotel and lots of outdoor seating and a bbq area near the pool. We found this to be a great location for getting to attractions, beaches, shopping and restaurants. I would definitely recommend a car for this location. As I had read in other reviews, the rooms are not very sound proof. This did not seem to be a problem late in the evening or early morning though. I also agree with some that say this hotel has a strange set up. The lobby is in one building and the rest of the hotel surrounds it with the pool in the middle. The elevators don't necessarily go to every floor. Once you figure out how to get to the main building for breakfast or the pool it's fine.
