We went to the Rio del Mar in Puerto Rico. Getting there was very easy. Upon arrival we were picked up by the resort shuttle. Nice ride, check in went well. the room was nice. My son had a wonderful time in the resort pool. They had a water slide more +and it seemed to be the most popular attraction with the kids. The daily iguana feeding was also very interesting. Food and drink however was very expensive. $3.75 for a bagel in the morning, eereal...$3.75. Drinks averaged $10 each. In four days we about an additional $700 for food and drink. Fun but be prepared for the extra charges.

I write this review with a heavy heart because I was really looking forward to this vacation.

We booked 3 rooms through Jetblue Getaways. One for my family and 2 rooms for my brother and his family. We arrived on 8/18 and we were more +suppose to check out on 8/22, but we got stuck due to hurricane Irene.

Our first impression of our room was that it was not clean and it had an unclean odor. Halfway through our first day, we started to hear very loud bagging noise that would not stop. We then found that the bathroom had black mold, and that's when I demanded for our room to be changed. Hotel manager on duty at the time Julissa Rivera, was not compliant. It wasn't until I threatened to contact my credit card company, that she agreed to change my room. Later that day I received a call from JetBlue Getaways wanted to verify that my room had been upgraded and I was now happy. Apparently, Ms. Rivera communicated this to JetBlue.
The problem with this is twofold. After my room was changed, I did not speak with Ms. Rivera again and my room was not upgraded. It was just changed to a higher floor room.

All ice machines throughout the hotel were not working and the room they are kept did not have working lights (electric)Different staff members have different reasons for this, including that they have been broken for some time. Pool towels were stained. Pool area was dirty and pool water itself appeared not to contain enough chlorine.

The grounds are beautiful, but the facility is not being maintained. As a result, it is dirty and not resort standards. To add insult to injury, they charged me their full rate for the additional day I had to stay due to flight cancellation, even though I had NO service to the room. No clean towels, no toilet paper, no turning of bed at all. The hotel restaurant did not have the courtesy to adjust their prices, being that we stuck with no where else to eat. Sadly, I will never stay at Rio Mar again. I will continue to stay at Marriott San Juan where I had a lovely stay October 2010.
