Even if you're not a guest at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, make reservations for dinner at this Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant. The name means "sacred place by the ocean" in the local Huichol language. Depending on the day and season, you may choose from your meal being cooked tableside over a hot rock, or from the wide variety of seafood caught within a few feet of the restaurant. For something special, make your reservation on a Friday night for the Chef's Table. Dress up just a bit for this outing. Reservations are recommended.

This dinner-only restaurant focuses on fresh seafood caught daily by the local fishermen of Punta Mita. But additional salads and some red meat accompany the seafood focus, and a comprehensive kids' menu is available. This is a lovely open-air restaurant where watching the sunset on the Pacific is the only thing better than your meal.

Punta de Mita, Nayarit, (322) 222 3228
At this colorful restaurant, you can dine inside in air-conditioned comfort or outside on a deck overlooking the many activities on El Anclote beach. The menu, as with many restaurants in Nayarit, highlights the local seafood. The fish tacos with fresh mahi-mahi and smoked in a style called zerandeado is fabulous. But salads and cold soups also are yummy and should please anyone of all ages.

First appearances can be deceiving as you enter this low-key dining room, inside the Hotel Garza Canela. But this will be some of the best food you eat while on the Riviera Nayarit. Chef Betty Vazquez trained at the Cordon Bleu in Paris, and she takes pride in her ability to get children to try new and unusual dishes. Sure, she will fix you a hamburger, but she is just as likely to have your kids eating squid or other exotic foods. Count on lots of seafood, soups, fresh salads, and incredibly good homemade bread.

Near the small town of Higuera Blanca between Punta de Mita and Sayulita , there's an unassuming beach shack named for its highway location at kilometer 5. Here you'll find a fantastic wood-fired pizza at a great price, along with salads and margaritas that will draw your family back time and again.
