All About the Extras
At check-in each children receive their own copy of "KidQuest We're There! Boston" by Elizabeth Skinner Grumbach. The book is filled with fun scavenger hunts, a Boston bingo game, interesting facts, and puzzles that relate to Boston's most notable attractions.
For a nice treat, order cookies and milk from room service for delivery before bed. The selection of CD sized cookies, served with mini-jugs of milk, is a huge hit with kids (and sweet-loving grown-ups too).
There are no children's programs at this Sonesta property, however, babysitting can be arranged through the concierge. Stop by the desk for a list of licensed babysitting agencies by city (look for ones located in Boston, Cambridge or Brookline, which are closest to the hotel). Rates vary by agency and by ages and number of children.
Save on cab fare and use the complimentary daily van service with stops at popular Cambridge attractions at MIT and Kendall Square as well as jaunts to Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Prudential Center/Copley area, both located just across the river.
Getting There
The hotel is three miles from Boston's Logan International Airport. Taxi rates are pre-set and run roughly $30 during peak times (7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.), and $25 off-peak, per party.
The Art of Smart Timing
The hotel does a brisk meeting/convention business especially in spring and fall. The most expensive times are typically in May/June when many local colleges hold graduation ceremonies, as well as in the fall during special events like the Head of the Charles Regatta. Summer and winter weekends are the best time to find low rates.
For Mom and Dad
For a close and convenient date night right in the hotel, dine on modern Italian cuisine, riverside, at the award winning dante Restaurant. Owner and chef Dante DeMagistris has received recognition in Bon Appetit, O, the Oprah Magazine, plus a well-deserved spot on the Best of Boston list, 2008.
Or, venture across the river for a wide array of romantic things to do sans kids. In the summer you can purchase a picnic dinner at a restaurant and catch an outdoor concert at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. Stroll down Newbury Street and shop in boutiques then sip drinks on one of the outdoor patios. Or, sports fans can try to catch a Celtics or Bruins game at Banknorth Garden (the former and storied Boston Garden).
