San Antonio Family Vacations
Families will love:
  • The world-renowned River Walk winding through the heart of the city
  • "Texas-sized" theme and amusement parks
  • Family festivals incorporating Mexican and Texas folk traditions

Deep in the heart of Texas awaits one of its best cities. San Antonio is a combination of old and new, with towering skyscrapers resting beside historic Spanish missions. This is frontier land, and San Antonio is rich in family adventures. Beginning at the San Antonio River, which winds through the city's heart, the world-renowned River Walk is often the start of the tour of the city, which is very proud of its 300-year-old heritage. Color splashes in every building, mariachi bands stroll with their guitars, and Missions and Cathedrals proudly surround the city, which feels more like an expanded village.

The city settled in 1718 where San Pedro Park now stands -- the second oldest park in the country. Growing up around the river, the history shines from every angle. The Mission Trail connects five missions, San Jose, Concepcion, San Juan, Espada and the Alamo, the later of which to this day symbolizes Texas' fight for independence from Mexico. Splashed across the city are museums and galleries, "Texas-sized" theme and amusement parks, and too many Tex-Mex restaurants to count. Festivals bring in Mexican and Texas folk traditions, such as Fiesta San Antonio's 11-day citywide party and Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and families can sit back and enjoy the quiet countryside dotted with wildflower-filled ranches in Hill Country. There are plenty of things to see and do in San Antonio, often featured in top lists of places to visit. Take the family and see what the fuss is all about.
