Condado Beach
While the front of the resort is a bustling cityscape complete with honking taxis and crowds of pedestrians, the rear of the hotel is a calm, beach reprieve. The tan sand may look coarse, but its sugar-soft feel will provide a perfect pillow for sleepy moms and dads, as well as perfect sand-castle-building consistency. Chairs are available, towels are provided, and servers will bring lunch and beverages directly to your perch.

Pool
The kids won't even notice the beach with this kid-friendly pool complete with fountains and waterslide. The lagoon-style pool is surrounded by palm trees with bridge walkways and plenty of chairs for families to stake out private spaces. Towels are provided poolside, and lunch and beverage service is provided, or just walk right up to one of two bars to place an order or grab a drink. Daily activities like volleyball and scavenger hunts gets the kids to mingle.

Hacienda Campo Rico
Just 15 minutes from the hotel, Hacienda Campo Rico is a beautiful and secluded, private farm with limestone mountains, mangrove-lined lagoons, and rain forest. Here, families can join EcoQuest Adventures & Tours on zip-lining and ATV adventures. Select a morning or afternoon session and kayak a lagoon to a trail winding through the forest to some of the island's longest and fastest zip lines. A restaurant awaits at the end of the last zip line, where a meal of local foods and mojitos (both with and without rum) is served. For more fun, hop on one of the group's 14 ATVs for a thrilling ride around the property -- guaranteed to leave you muddy if rains have recently swept through.

Laguna Grande Bioluminescent Bay
Puerto Rico is one of the few places on Earth to be home to Pyrodimium Bahamense, a microscopic plankton that produces a natural light when disturbed. Join a kayak team and paddle your way through a Mangrove-lined "river" at dusk to the bay, where darkness falls and each stroke of the paddle and jumping fish illuminate the water. Quite the once-in-a-lifetime experience, but a downfall to this adventure is the 90-minute to two-hour van ride to the bay. Much too long with young children to withstand once, let alone twice for the return trip after only an hour of kayaking. Most of the kayaking is in the dark, with just glow sticks highlighting the other kayakers. Young children afraid of the dark may not like this trip, as well; I heard one young boy crying and begging his father to take him back to shore. Keep this activity for your 'tweens and teens, who will love it!

Old San Juan
For just 75 cents, hop on the bus directly outside the hotel and disembark at the last stop: Old San Juan. Here, tiny streets wind through decaying buildings for a tour of Puerto Rico's authentic history. Visit Castillo de San Felipe del Morro, aka "El Morro," for 140-foot-high seaside views. The former Spanish garrison was first built between 1539 and 1787 to ward off attackers. The great lawn leading up to the fort is a favorite for locals to use for kite flying, and the park even hosts a kite-flying festival in late March. Vendors sell kites, so your kids can join the dozens of kids running with kites.
