Overview

Scandic brand hotels are popular across Scandinavia and very family friendly. And the chain’s several Oslo outposts are no exception to the rule. You’ve got your pick of locations throughout the city, but we like the Scandic Byporten, conveniently located at the Central Train Station in downtown Oslo and within easy walking distance of most attractions, as well as trams, busses and trains. The hotel has 239 rooms and a garage onsite, in case you’ve rented a car. Room configurations consist of superior rooms that sleep a family of three with a queen bed and couch, rooms with double beds to sleep four people and junior suites that have two doubles beds, a couch and bathrooms with tubs. Kids under 12 years old stay free at all Scandic hotels and get free breakfast daily (there are pancake parties on weekends and holidays), in addition to a welcome gift.

Ariana Grande Oslo

Accompanying my daughter, we traveled to Oslo (from Australia via the UK visiting family) to see Ariana Grande at Telenor Arena and stayed for two nights at the Scandic Byporten and we are so glad we did. Great location, great staff, great rooms and the breakfasts were excellent. Tremendous value and we’ll be returning. The standout though were the pink balloons, the bag of lollies (that’s sweets/candy), some pictures of Ariana and the note saying ‘Welcome, enjoy the show …’. My daughter (who’s 14) was blown away. This was a total surprise (okay, when we booked the room, they asked what was bringing us to Oslo) and above and beyond what was expected. Brilliant hotel, brilliant city – add it to your list.

Staff went out of their way to help and the foyer lounges felt like you were at hom. Central to the shopping centre, central railway station and the trams, what more could you ask for. You would be made to not use the Scandic chain regularly as they are first class and reliable
