Snowmass Planning & Tips
The Art of Smart Timing
Snowmass' peak season is ski season -- generally between Thanksgiving and mid-April. School holidays like Christmas break, Martin Luther King Day Weekend, President's Day Weekend and March's spring break -- bring many families to the slopes, so prepare for crowds then. Early December and April, just before the lifts close, are quieter.

But, Snowmass is a very popular summer destination, as well. Peak summer season is July 4 to Labor Day, so if your kids get out of school in early June, you might be able to avoid crowds then. The "off seasons" are spring and fall, so town is much quieter then, and again, you'll likely find some lodging and dining discounts (but you also may find some closed or limited-hour restaurants and shops).

Snowmass goes big, celebrating Mardi Gras in February and St. Patrick's Day in March with all sorts of festive flair on the ski mountain and on the Village Mall. September brings the Snowmass Balloon Festival, which typically includes an evening "balloon glow" and barbecue, "target tubing" games and distance races.

The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is six miles from Snowmass, where a local taxi or your courtesy lodging shuttle can take you to your accommodations. You can also fly into Eagle (EGE), 67 miles away, or Denver (DEN), 220 miles away, and take a Colorado Mountain Express shuttle to Snowmass.

Getting Around
If you're staying anywhere in Snowmass Village, you do not need your own rental car. The Town of Snowmass Village offers complimentary shuttle service on multiple routes throughout town, all day long and into the evening. Most lodging properties in Snowmass offer complimentary shuttle service for their guests, as well.

The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority offers free bus service between Snowmass Village and Aspen between 6:15 a.m. and 2:15 a.m.

Off the Radar
Head to the local Snowmass Village Recreation Center to swim where the locals do: at a year-round, zero-depth-entry outdoor pool with waterslide, fountains, waterspouts and tumble buckets. Grown-ups appreciate the toasty Jacuzzi and 25-yard lap pool that's kept at 94 degrees in the winter.
