Never again!!
by mslimor
Never again!!!!!! We are used to traveling in and out of the US and had the fortune to visit and stay in many hotels. Staying at the South Seas Island Resort was THE most unpleasant experience we ever had. First, the room we got was not at ... more all what we expected. We were promised a three bedroom villa which turned out to be a poorly designed apartment. We decided to upgrade to another room for the symbolic amount of $800 a night. Once in the room, we were told that the room's floor did not have proper insulation and to please be quiet. We are a family of four children so that was not an easy task. By 9:30 pm the security guard knocked on the door and threatened us that if we don't keep it down, he will bring the police to "take care" of the noise. Maybe he planned to arrest the kids????? Not sure what was his intention. My ten year old daughter did not sleep all night terrified that the police will knock on the door. The next day we had the audacity of treating our kids for an ice cream. We have a seven year old boy with special needs. As he walked in the ice cream shop he was overwhelmed by the noise and he started screaming. As we struggled to quiet him down, the employee tending the store complained that my child was being too loud and that we need to quiet him down. It was one of the most hurtful moments we have ever experienced with our child. The fire alarm was activated at my brother's apartment at two am and no one was able to quiet it down. Fire department had to come and shut it off an hour later. Employees were rude and unhelpful. If you have kids, do yourself a favor and don't stay here!!! Sanibel Island offers much better customer service and accommodation ( Sundial beach resort is amazing)

Everything in the South Seas is far and you need a car to transport everywhere. You can wait for a trolly at a 100 degrees weather or pouring rain.

Mermaids and Dolphins

The South Seas Island Resort is the best family island getaway in Florida. This was our first visit and we spent two fun-filled days and nights on the beach, swimming in three large pools, and exploring Sanibel Island. Shelling is the best ... more on the island and there are several tour boats waiting take you and your family to small isolated islands for shelling and swimming.

One of the resort pools is a small waterpark with slides. Our family snorkeled for shells, went for walks on the beach, made late night trips to the ice cream shop on the resort, and at the end of a fun-filled day we ordered pizzas in our comfy room. This is a beautiful island and the resort is top-notch. The resort staff were quick to respond and make our stay the most enjoyable. We definitely will return for fun-in-the sun and surf!

Perfect Florida Family Getaway
by Amysaied
Looking for a vacation where the parents can relax and the kids can let loose? Look no further than the South Seas Island Resort in Captiva Island. Located just a short drive (30-40 minutes) from Ft. Myers airport, Captiva Island is a gorgeous tropical island off the ... more Gulf of Mexico.

This gated resort is beautifully maintained in the midst of a wildlife preserve. There are private homes, condos, townhomes and a hotel section. There are several restaurants on site, very nice shops, a small gourmet grocery/convenience store that has just about anything you would need. There is a yacht marina and fishing pier next to the fancier restaurant. Our room overlooked the marina and we enjoyed watching the boats come in. There was a large grassy area between the hotel and the docks, and that seemed to be a gathering place every night for families and teens, so it did get loud. But the noice always died down by 10:00. I am commenting on this in case you have babies or small children who need to go to bed early. If this is the case, then you don't want to be on the marina side. BUT our locaiton was extremely convenient to the pool complex, beach and kids' camp.

The beaches are absolutely gorgeous, and covered with all kinds of interesting sea shells. Our kids went nuts collecting these treasures. There is a nice pool bar with drinks and grilled food. An ice cream/snack boat pulled up to the beach every afternoon. The beach had cusioned lounge chairs and umbrellas and staff to help you set up if you needed it. There are also restrooms at the beach. Next to the beach is a gorgeous golf course. We are not golfers, but the people who were golfing sure looked like they were enjoying themselves. There was a nice sized clubhouse/pro shop at the golf course.

The pools are pristine and comfortably heated. We were there in March and had a mix of warm and cool days, so the heated pools were nice. The pools are all kid friendly, but most kids used the large pool that had water slides. There are plenty of lounge chairs and wait staff to bring drinks, snacks or lunch. There is also a restaurant at the pool complex, and also a pool bar. All of the staff we encountered were personable, helpful and friendly.

Our room was very clean, although quite "bare." We were on the marina side, overlooking the water, but the room was not decorated at all. Plain white walls, white bedding -- that's it. It was spacious though, and very comfortable.

There were several dining options to choose from -- Scoops and Slices (which, you guessed it -- is an ice cream/pizza parlor. The kids LOVED it there, though the pizza was just "ok." They had a large penny candy section which was fun. This place is right across from the pool complex. Next to this place is the kids' camp which was very well run and had a multitude of daily activities. We had a couple of rainy days, and there was plenty to do. We were there for a week, and didn't partake in even half of the activities being offered.

The other restaurants were great. The one by the marina is finer dining, yet VERY kid friendly. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The food was excellent. the dinners were fantastic (fresh fish and seafood, steaks), and the breakfast buffet was lovely. Doc Ford's restaurant was large, loud and casual. I dreaded going there but my son kept begging me. I was expecting a Ruby Tuesdays type experience, but it wasn't like that at all. The food and service were great.

We left the resort a couple of times -- once to go to a CVS in Sanibel (10 miles away), and to try some other restaurants. The Bubble Room is apparently an "instituion." It is definitely an interesting place, but past its prime in my opinion. I don't think it's been cleaned since the Nixon Administration. The food was gross... We also went to RC Otters, which was an open air seafood restaurant that had live music (acoustic guitar/singing). We enjoyed it a lot. We also had brunch at the Key Lime Bistro. Good food, fun atmosphere, but very poor service.

We truly had a great vacation. We had never been to this part of Florida before, and we will defnitely go back to this resort. We would have needed a month to partake in all that the Southseas had to offer. The resort was fairly pricey, but it was worth it. You get what you pay for.

Paradise for families in Captiva
by vcrissien
We stayed at this resort last year for four days and we truly were so sad to leave! My girls do not stop telling us they want to go back again this summer. This resort exemplifies the perfect location for families. It is not only peaceful, ... more there is just so much to do in general.

Our room overlooked the bay near their marina and I cannot tell you what an amazing breeze and sunsets we would experience. We truly relaxed here as a family. The main hotel has the most amazing waterslides for the kids where we spent most of our time and their other pools are just spectacular. The service is fantastic, didn't have one complaint!!! A true gem for families. We definitely will be back. And best of all..the most amazing shelling anywhere!!!

Easter at South Seas
by Otto324
This resort is incredibly family friendly. There's something for all ages. Kids could never get bored here. The pool area with the water slides is beautiful but make sure you go early to get a chair. There are other pools around the resort but ... more this is where most of the action is.

The beaches are beautiful. Especially at sunset. I would say the only downside of this trip was the accomodations. For the amount of money we paid per night, we were thinking we'd be on par with a luxury hotel. This is not the case. However, the grounds and activities just made up for it.
