Awful!!!

by Summer88

I’ll be making a submission to the Bermuda Tourism Authority because I really want to know if this establishment has a licence to operate as a hotel and if so why.

I stayed for three nights at the beginning of the month. The service was terrible, the condition of the room way below average which simply adds up to AWFUL.

From dirty dishes and socks greeting me at the room entrance when I checked in, to frayed window shades, broken lamp, moldy main bedroom ceiling to maid’s hair left on the “cleaned” bathroom floor, no patio louger, stray cats on the table, having to repeatedly request for included items to be brought ( and they never were),

Stay somewhere else is my very strong advice. I had other guests asking me to remove dirty dishes from the pool area! They were not my dishes and I don’t work there!

Bad attitude from the front office manager when I complained, so I don’t think improvement is likely.

Thoroughly disgusted! Room cleaning in particular is the biggest rip off ! No other hotel on the island charges a per person per day rate..... and worst thing is, room, was worse after the maid came. The guy came with a vacuum ready to leave without doing a thing. He asked... “do you want your unit vacuumed?” Of course we do! Then he went into a room turned the vacuum on and did nothing. I saw him. When i asked how it was the stuff was still on the carpet he said he “forgot” to do it.

I’m Bermudian and I’m ashamed of the lcak of and awful service given ta St George’s Club. I’m sure even the union that the staff are members of, would be appauled

This place didn't come up to expectations

Wouldn't advise anyone to go to this place unless they can get their customer service sorted out. When we arrived from UK after a fairly long journey, the lady on reception ignored us for about 10 minutes while she dealt with someone else. If she had just acknowledged us and said she would be with us soon or something along those lines, it would have been acceptable but she didn't even look up. She was on her own but, when she did get to speak to us, she was very blunt and almost barked what she had to say to us. Our two bedroom 'cottage' was fairly spacious and we were happy with the arrangement and the bathrooms. However, it was quite old fashioned looking and needed a bit of a makeover. We took the downstairs room with twin beds which couldn't be put together as they had been bolted to the wall. Fair enough I suppose. We were told that we had to pay $12 per person per day for the maid service (I did remember reading this before we booked) so we said we would manage without that service. This apparently was not possible and we would have to pay whether we had the service or not. That meant it would cost us (we mistakenly thought) $48 per day between us for making the beds and a very quick clean which was always done when it suited the staff not when it suited us. We had our 7 month old grandchild with us and, when we came to leave, we were told that she also counted as a person and the service per day would therefore be $60!! Unbelievable.
The fridge had a large dent in it and we were not given a kettle in the kitchen. We asked for one and were told we could have one but this took a couple of days and several reminders before it arrived. It then had a leak!! We couldn't use the dishwasher as there were only 5 mugs in the kitchen for 4 people. The air con was old and very noisy and one of our units failed. However, they replaced the whole unit very quickly so no complaints there.
The pool was generally nice and clean although there was no service of drinks near the pool and plastic glasses left there were still there the next day on at least one occasion. The serious problem with the main pool was that the top step of the ladder type entry was broken and, if you trod on it, it was likely that the sharp plastic where broken would have caused a nasty injury.
Now for breakfast, this was lacking in topping up of the help yourself items. Very often the milk for the coffee was 'off' or had run out completely. The cooked breakfasts were good although the menu was rigid and we had to pay $3 for a small portion of bacon when asking for bacon with plain French toast when you could have had another version of French toast with bacon included - odd, to say the least. On our last morning, the waitress said 'they had run out of milk'. China cups were not always available but disposable paper ones were. We really did not like the use of disposable items which were not recyclable. Cakes and pastries were of a poor quality and cereal was very limited.
Overall we were not very impressed although the cottages themselves are a good size and the layout is very attractive. There is nothing wrong with this place that couldn't be sorted out fairly easily with better management, better customer service and a little bit of money spent to keep things properly maintained. The location is excellent with good access to beaches, buses and ferries. The town of St. George's is very pretty. Bermuda is very expensive but apparently this hotel complex is one of the cheapest. I would say don't go to Bermuda unless you have plenty of money!!
