Sunriver was voted one of the Top 50 Ski Resort Hotels in North America by Conde Nast Traveler. Mt. Bachelor is just 20 minutes away, and free daily shuttles are available. Sunriver also has its own sledding and tubing hill, and there are several others within 15-minutes of the resort. Also within about 20 minutes are several cross-country trails, ice-skating (right in Sunriver) and dog sledding.
Warm-weather activities include aerial tours, ATV riding around the foothills, fishing (including fly casting clinics and spin), paintball, biking (paved paths as well as mountain) and horseback riding for all skill levels. Canoe through caves. Explore Sunriver's observatory. Swim at one of the three pools, one of which has a 50-foot waterslide. Open in spring and summer, the Bike Barn has a fleet of 400 bikes available for rent, either by the hour or week. Helmets, a map and bike locks included. There is also Frisbee golf, indoor rock climbing, 28 tennis courts, four golf courses and, in winter, cross-country and downhill skiing at the neighboring Mt. Bachelor.
The resort's kids' program is housed at Fort Funnigan, a 3,400-square-foot fenced playground with activities specifically structured for kids ages 3 to 10, including side trips to the stables, marina, fish hatchery and Nature Center. If you want to take the older kids whitewater rafting down the Class III rapids of the Deschutes, then Fort Funnigan is a good babysitting option for the younger children. Fees for day and night programs vary and reservations are advised. Sunriver also provides recommendations for local babysitting services.
