Our family vacationed at Sunset Beach Montego Bay May 9-16, 2010. We have 2 girls ages 8 and 5 and my sister joined us with her husband and 10 yr old. Bottom line is great value for the money. Last year we vacationed at a luxury family resort. We more +knew that a waterpark was good for our kids, beach and all inclusive.

Sunset Beach is 15-20 minutes with downtown traffic from the airport. The lobby is open, breezy, very welcoming. We checked in and were upgraded to oceanfront Rooms 909 and 910. We had requested connecting rooms. They accommodated us the 2nd night with that request. FANTASTIC VIEWS!
The rooms are basic. BASIC! However, cleaned every day. Balcony was nice size, air conditioning works well and beds comfortable. They are in the process of renovating rooms with flat screens, painting, bedding. THe older rooms are out of date, BUT again clean.

BEACHES: They had 5 of them. 1 is clothing optional all the way down end. You can not see. (I was concerned with my children). 2 beaches were abit rocky were watershoes would come in handy. The 1 bigger beach was fine. You could use snorkeling, peddlebikes, windsurfing and hobie cat. Beaches were well maintained.

POOLS: Great Waterpark. Our kids loved it! The pool is very inviting with many entrances, lagoon style. 2 hot tubs there as well. Zero entry for the smaller children made it easy for them. Plenty of tubes around to float. Many chaise lounges and umbrellas.

They have 2 swim up pool bars and then another pool for volleyball and where they play music all day. Best part is, when it is crowded it doesn't feel it. At the beach or pools. One afternoon we pulled some chaise lounges into the water and had our children swimming, looking shells using their goggles. Relaxing.

Club Mongoose: Although our children opted for the waterpark; I did tour the kids club. Seemed pretty typical with puzzles, crafts, TV, games and staff. The staff seemed friendly and willing to engage with the children.

FOOD: The selection was good at the buffet for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Food was decent. I always saw someone wiping down the counter and the trays never went empty. The main dining room had children foods at every meal. Dinner they always had chicken nuggets, fries, fruit and some pasta. They have 3 a al carte dining options. 1 Italian, 1 Asian and 1 Caribbean. We tried Italian and Asian and went over well with the kids. Again, food was good. We didn't do Caribbean for we knew our children wouldn't eat the items.

Bars: They do not have premium brand liquors. The only beer is Red Stripe and Red Stripe Light. Good wine selection and I have to say they were good. We thought next time we would stop at a local store to by Jack Daniels and Stoli and keep it in our room.

Beach Party: FANTASTIC!!!! Best steel drum I have ever seen. Plenty of tables, food was a nice mix of local and typical things from home. Everyone toe tapping and kids dancing.

The Grill: Grilled Cheese, Hamburger, Veggie Burger, Chicken Burger, Hot Dog, Fries, Jerk Chicken. Served hot, it was good and great when you have a picky eater. It was open from 10a-7pm, then back open at 10pm. My youngest loved the grilled cheese. So at dinnertime, I would get one and bring it over to the main dining room where we ate.

Entertainment: Every day they had a list of hourly events. Things for adults and children. They had magic shows, local, band and comedians. Nice big revue for this as well. Plenty of seating.

One thing we noticed was at this resort, if it rains there is so many areas that are covered that your vacation won't be ruined.

SPA: I had a deep tissue massage. Spa was clean, big and staff terrific. Abit higher priced than some others but it is an outside company. It is not owned by Sunset.

Gift Shop: Good selection and prices were not bad at all.

They offering on site shopping with local vendors twice a week. No pressure shopping. May is a nice time to go.Not the rainy season. Montego Bay can be breezy. It picks up in the afternoon and then calms down around 4/5pm. Have to say without the breeze it would have been unbearable. Watersports maybe better in the AM.

Once all the rooms are redone, that will be nice. Chaise lounges on the beach, most need to be replaced but you did find some. All the ones by pools were fine. 1 pool definitely needed a scrubby dubby. All the rest were find. People were friendly. A few scattering didn't look happy but I think you find that anywhere.

We would return for the value and all it had to offer for our family. I hope this helps anyone looking at Sunset for a vacation.

Liz

This location is a beach front all-inclusive 3 1/2 star. It has a nice spa and a REAL kids club. It's staff is friendly and the grounds are clean. Best of all, the location has a water park that will keep your children entertained with little more +effort.

Worst is that wi-fi is only in the lobby and your laptop might have a hard time catching the signal.

Otherwise, a fantastic place to visit if you have children for the price and quality.

See you at the Sunset!

My husband and I traveled for 5 nights to the Sunset Beach Resort & Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica, back in February. Although we traveled kid-free, there appeared to be a lot for kids to do there at the resort. It has its own water park and more +swimming area that is completely separate from what I would call the adult swimming area - with swim up bar. There is also a playground area, as well as miniature golf and giant checkers and chess for the kids to do.

There were also special theme nights almost every night we were there. One night was a large BBQ cookout buffet, they also had a family-friendly fashion show one night to showcase the clothing from the gift shops.

I went on a vacation with my two kids, ages 9 and 16 at that time. Girl and boy, respectively. We had a good time and really enjoyed the resort. Lobby area was open to the outdoors and colorful. Rooms were also nice. They have a nice pool area with more +a children's play area. Me and my daughter stayed at the pool while my son did a lot of the water activities such as snorkeling and paddle boats, etc. on the beach. The food was excellent. I had Jamaican beef patties several times a day from the outside grill. The kids ate double cheeseburgers daily. The staff did not have to ask them what they wanted after awhile. For my son, they also added extras. Resort is all exclusive and the kids were also able to get mixed drinks (without the alcohol). We did not use the kid club much because we enjoyed doing the resort activities together. They also had daily and nightly activities such as music and performances that were great. Resort was in a secluded area where no one but guests could get in and security was great. Away from the touristy area.
